Dean of Students School Operations/Communication Update

Students and parents have received updates on what’s happening here at Capella High School via our Student Monthly Calendar. The Dean of Students and or Mrs. Kolb will collect from staff, school administrators and consultant’s information to prepare the monthly Calendar for dissemination. Ongoing action- We are working on posting on the school website.

Student Affairs/Activities Report

Ø  The Student Involvement Council (SIC) Co-Chair Mr. Ronald Alcorn will kick off our student council campaigning this month beginning January 4th. The elections will run from January 4 through January 28, concluding with an Election Day on January 29th. The student candidates are set to have a debate style introduction to the student population on January 28th.

a.  The Student Council meets every second and fourth Wednesday of each month.

Ø  Lunch with the Dean and Principal for candidates nominated for January Student of the Month will be held on January 21st at Noon. Principal Ms. Nelson has requested the nominees all get lunch and the winner-a gift card.

a.  The selected student for the month of January is Jermaine Crider.

Partnership/ Community Outreach

Ø  The Dean of Students and Principal will attend the WORD CHURCH Partners Breakfast at 9:30am in an effort to improve our community relations, increase our visibility, and to strengthen enrollment for the 2016 semester.

Ø  I will be working on establishing a relationship with the Cavs Foundation and Volunteers of America for community volunteering efforts and or employment. Internships with Local and Greater Cleveland organizations are forthcoming.

Parent Involvement Committee Update

Towards the end of the month we will jump start our Parent Involvement Committee, the goal of this committee is to bring our parents to the forefront of decision making here at Capella High School. We look forward to fun-filled activities and outreach efforts from the committee. I will be mailing letters to parents later in the month.

(Suggested) Programs and Actives:

ü  Black College Tour- Preview Day (Various Universities)

ü  Volunteering in our Community

ü  Family Fun Night

ü  Spirit Week

ü  Skating Event

ü  Family Movie Night (AMC Movie Theater)

Some of these programs are in progress, and with the help of parents and staff we can make great impact in our outreach and activities.
