Programme Activities

Getting Started Workshop: A workshop to help you and your family better understand your cancer treatment, how to prevent or manage side effects and how to be as healthy in body and mind as possible, during and after cancer treatment.

Talking Heads: A workshop for anyone anticipating hair loss (men & women) to give you an opportunity to share your experiences and anxieties whilst learning practical ways to manage this.

Where Now? : This 7 week course can help you find a new normality after cancer treatment has finished. The course is usually facilitated by the Maggie’s psychologist who will be partnered by other professionals to lead discussions in their areas of expertise on such topics as healthy eating, physical activity, emotional well-being and post treatment challenges.

Look Good, Feel Better: A sessionwhich teaches women who have received a cancer diagnosis how to manage some of the visible side-effects of treatment. The workshops are informative, lively and most of all are fun!

Living with Less Stress (6 week course): The Living with Less Stress course uses widely accepted, research-based knowledge and skills to help you manage the stresses associated with the cancer journey. The course is facilitated by the Maggie’s psychologist and is open to anyone affected by a diagnosis of cancer.

Introduction to Mindfulness (8 week course): This is an experiential course, which gives an introduction to the use of mindfulness meditation practice as a way of dealing with life stresses differently. The course is facilitated by the Maggie’s psychologist andis open to both people with a cancer diagnosis and those supporting someone with cancer.

Managing Sleep Difficulties (2 week course): Thecourse is facilitated by the Maggie’s psychologist and will explore what sleep is, why it is important, and give you some tips about how to improve sleep. It is open for people with a cancer diagnosis as well as family and friends who are experiencing difficulty sleeping.

Relaxation & visualisation: These sessions are designed help you find some peace and calmness. The facilitator will guide you through the process of relaxing your muscles one by one and letting tension drain away to a background of relaxing music. Some visualisation is used which involves asking you to imagine a series of images, often including colour and nature.

Tai Chi: For anyone with cancer or caring for someone with cancer. This practice combines deep breathing and relaxation with slow and gentle movements which put very little pressure on bones and joints.

Yoga: For anyone with cancer or caring for someone with cancer. Yoga is an enjoyable way of helping us return to good natural posture and good natural breathing.
