Ride 2 – Around Flaunden
This Ride of around 1.5 to 2 hours duration affords great views towards Chenies and the Chess Valley, with plenty of off-road riding in open fields and through lovely woodlands, and utilises the 2 JSTT tracks in the Flaunden area. The route starts at the Plough, Belsize (parking by prior arrangement), whilst the Green Dragon at Flaunden has tie-up facilities for three horses.
Exit the Plough car park turning right
800m – bear left – Bragmans Lane
800m – on your left join the JSTT Bragmans/Moonshine Track – see JSTT Gallery
3000m – at end of track bear left onto Chenies Hill
800m – turn right into Mill Farm, proceed ahead and exit via bridleway gate on left. Keep straight ahead
2000m – having passed through three sets of bridleway gates - parallel with the River Chess – turn right onto road and proceed through Latimer village on the Flaunden Hill road
1000m – Turn right onto bridleway which climbs the hill on right and keep straight ahead through Long Wood
2000m – At the SWHerts Observatory either turn right onto a sand track, bearing left at the end and then turn right back into Bragmans Lane and back to the Plough
OR
1000m - turn left down track to reach Flaunden Church - the Green Dragon will be on your right. From the Green Dragon proceed through the village and go straight across the X roads
600m – turn right onto Flaunden Lane
800m – turn right slightly up hill to the beginning of the JSTT Flaunden Lane Track on your left
500m – exit Track, turn right and re-join the JSTT track on left
800m – exit Track, keeping to your left continue along the lane. You are back at the Plough to enjoy some refreshment as a ‘thank-you’ for parking!
