First Reconciliation & First Eucharist

FIRST RECONCILIATION PREPARATION 2017
Sunday, September 24th Sacramental Preparation Family Gathering
1:30 – 3:30pm
Eligible families come together to experience, learn, and share with each other the gift of the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and Eucharist that have been given to help us in our faith journey. Discover how preparing your child to receive one or more of these sacraments will be the best experience for your family in your faith life. Your child should also attend this meeting with you.
Sunday October 15th at the 11:00am Mass- Families attend Mass. Children preparing for First Reconciliation will receive a special blessing and be recognized by our parish community.
First Reconciliation Parent Meeting 1:00 - 3:00pm All parents who have children preparing to receive First Reconciliation are obligated to attend this meeting for information about the immediate preparation for the sacrament. Children are also to attend this meeting.
Lunch will be served, please bring a dish to share; salad, chips, dessert. The parish will provide hot dogs, buns, drinks and paper goods.
Parents will receive instructions and materials to prepare their child at home over the next five to six weeks for the Sacrament of First Reconciliation. At the end of the five- six week’s parent/s and child will meet with Yvette or Dcn. Jim Barth for an interview. These interviews are for us and you, the parent, to determine if your child is prepared to receive this sacrament.

First Reconciliation Retreat
Sunday, January 7, and Sunday, January 14th 1:30 – 3:30 pm
Two dates are set for retreats to be used if more than 50 children are involved.
One parent is required to attend the retreat with their child. Parents are also asked to bring a snack to share with the group. Cookies, cupcakes, fruit, chips, brownies, whatever your child likes as a snack. Drinks and paper goods will be provided by the parish
Reception of the Sacrament of First Reconciliation Saturday, January 27, 2018 @ 10am in the church. (If there is inclement weather on January 27 the snow date is Saturday, February 3, 2018)
All families will gather in the church for a large group prayer service and then will receive the sacrament of Reconciliation on an individual basis with area priests in attendance.
FIRST EUCHARIST PREPARATION 2018
Sunday, February 11th Parent meeting 1:00 – 3:00pm
This parent meeting will engage parents in learning more about the importance of this sacrament and attending weekly Mass as a family to celebrate the sacrament of Eucharist. We will also explore the promises made at your child’s Baptism and your lifelong commitment to bring your child up in the faith of the Church.
Parents will receive instructions and materials to prepare their child at home over the next five to six weeks for the Sacrament of First Eucharist. At the end of the five- six week’s parent/s and child will meet with Dcn Jim Barth or Yvette for an interview. As in Reconciliation preparation, these interviews are for us and you, the parent, to determine if your child is prepared to receive this sacrament. Sign-ups for these interviews will be done at the parent meeting on February 11th. Please see dates and times below for the interviews.

First Eucharist Retreat Day 1:30-3:30pm
Two dates are set for retreats if more than 50 children are involved.
Families with their last name ending with A –M attend on the 22nd
Families with their last name ending with N –Z attend on the 29th
One parent is asked to attend this retreat with their child. At this retreat you and your child will complete their First Eucharist banner and will practice in church receiving communion. Parents are asked to bring a snack to share.
If you have any religious items that you would like
to have blessed, please bring them with you to the retreat.
First Eucharist Celebration Dates 2018
There will be two large group celebrations.
Spanish speaking families may choose Sunday, May 6th for their child’s First Communion
At the 4:00pm Spanish Mass.
Saturday, May 5th 10:00am A - M
Saturday, May 12th 10:00am N – Z
Families are usually divided by the alphabet, using the first letter of the last name.
If the date that your child will be celebrating their First Eucharist is not convenient for your family, you may choose to ask another family who is scheduled on the other date to change with you. If neither date is good for your family, you can choose to celebrate your child’s First Eucharist at any weekend Mass.
