What information should a CV include?

Your CV is all about you, ask your friends and family to say what makes you YOU.

A good CV should include information under the headings below. The order in which you present these can be varied slightly and you should be willing to tailor your CV to promote your suitability for any particular application, according to the description/specifications of the particular position.

Personal details

  • Do set out your contact details clearly and visibly – e-mail addresses and phone number/s.
  • Your personal details should include a profile, your skills and qualities, and any experiences you have had.

Education and qualifications

  • Which schools you went to and when up to the current time, in order of date.
  • Your grades and target grades
  • State where you intend to go once you have completed your GCSEs (college, sixth form).
  • State how the subjects you have chosen relate to the careers pathway you would like to follow.

Experiences

  • Include all experiences you have had which are relevant to a career path.
  • Include any recent roles and responsibilities that you have had, ( form rep, helping roles, school council).
  • Computer skills, foreign languages and communication are all skills to be included.
  • Include your hobbies and interests, as these are important factors of career paths.

Your CV should be clear to read and to the point. It is about telling others why you are the right person for the post or position.

Always check and double check what you have written for spelling mistakes and grammar, and have someone else read it as well. The text in a CV should be Tahoma or Arial at size 12. Be honest and accurate. No more than two A4 pieces of paper.
