Illustrated and Annotated Civil RightsTimeline

  1. Label 20 eventsfrom the Civil Rights Movement on a timeline. Yourfirst eventwill be the desegregation of military by President Truman. Your last eventwill be the Civil Rights Act of 1968.
  2. The following events are required to be on the timeline:

  • Brown vs. Board of Education
/
  • March on Washington

  • Greensborough Sit Ins
/
  • Assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

  • The Watts Riots
/
  • Freedom Rides

  • Little Rock Nine
/
  • Montgomery Bus Boycott

  1. Most dates will be in the textbook, but you will need to use outside resources for dates not in the book. Be specific with a month and year that an event occurred or began.
  1. The timeline must be in chronological order (meaning in the correct order of each event from the earliest date to the latest date). LABEL AND NUMBER each event. Please include the name of the event and the date.
  1. Create a visual for each event. You can draw this or print one off the internet/clip art; pictures do NOT need to be in color.
  1. Create a hashtag saying for each event that describes what happened:
  2. Ex: Rosa Parks - #sittingdowntostandupforrights
  1. For three (3) of the events on your timeline write one 8+ sentence paragraph that explains what happened, why it happened, who was involved, and why it was significant. Two of these event paragraphs must come from the assigned events above.This means you need three (3) paragraphs that are a minimum of eight (8) sentences and they MUST answer all of the questions that are in italics above.
