Long Bridges nature area (the Island). Section of Weirs Mill Stream. / 4 / The site has a fragile and eroding bank and the waterway is too shallow for safe navigation. This is also a wildlife area.

Both banks of Weirs Mill Stream on west edge of Iffley Meadow Nature Reserve from point level with Isis Farmhouse Public House down to Ring road. / 4 / One of the city’s most important and unique wildflower habitats. The site has an unstable bank and mooring and access would disturb this fragile habitat. Regulated by BBOWT and OCC.
Schedule 5: Rivers, Canals, Streams And Adjacent Areas Designated Under The Prohibition OfAntisocial Behaviour
Location And Watercourse / RegulatorAll waterways, their towpaths and bankside areas within the City of Oxford. / Regulated by Oxford City Council, Thames Valley Police and designated landowners and agencies.
- Boater Behaviour Prohibited:
- No person shall cause a towpath, river/canal bank area to be obstructed by the inconsiderate positioning of mooring spikes or ropes.
- No person shall encroach on to the towpath or river/canal bank area. This includes the storage of items or the erection of structures or awnings etc unless it is with the express consent of the land owner.
- No person shall pollute the waterway or adjacent river/canal bank areas through inappropriate disposal of waste matter or materials.
- Boat owners must make appropriate arrangements for the disposal of domestic or commercial waste. Appropriate does not include using public litterbins or local residents’ household refuse bins.
- No person shall create smoke or noise pollution causing annoyance to others.
- Generic Towpath and River/Canal bank Area Regulations:
- No person shall tamper with signage, lifebelts, fencing or other waterways infrastructure.
- No person shall, without reasonable excuse, cause damage to flora and fauna or river/canal banks.
- No person shall light fires or use BBQs on the towpath or river/canal bank area unless it is with the express consent of the land owner.
- Any person cycling on a towpath must exercise due care and attention at all times.
- No person shall refuse to stop drinking alcohol, or to hand over containers (sealed or unsealed) which are believed to contain alcohol, when requested to do so by an authorised officer in order to prevent a public nuisance or disorder.
- Any person in charge of a dog which fouls a towpath or river/canal bank area shall remove the waste and dispose of it in an appropriate receptacle.
- When requested to do so by an authorised officer, any person in charge of a dog must put the animal on a lead and keep it under control. This is to prevent a nuisance or behaviour likely to cause harm, annoyance, worrying or disturbance to any other person, animal or wildlife.
