RE: TxAPA Associate Member Technology Showcase
In January 2010, TxDOT announced impending changes to several soils and flexible base test procedures, including TxDOT Test Method Tex-113-E. These changes, which will go into effect on September 1, 2010, will affect many within our industry, including base suppliers, contractors, the laboratories conducting the testing, and many more. In addition to changes in these test procedures TxDOT will be implementing new sampling and handling procedures as they relate to soils and flexible base.
On August 10th, 2010, the TxAPA Associate Member Advisory Committee will host a technology showcase featuring Caroline Herrera, P.E., Soils and Aggregates Branch Director for TxDOT. Ms. Herrera will be discussing these important changes at the TxAPA office in Buda, TX beginning at 3:00PM.
Join us as Ms. Herrera presents ways toreduce variability of test results obtained between laboratories for Tex-113-E and Tex-117-E. This will include an overview of sources of variabilityand test procedure changes TxDOT has madeto address variability, changes to the certification process, and implementation of the soil compactor analyzer (SCA) andslide hammer. The centerpiece of the various changes is the SCA. There will be a demonstration of the SCA for those interested in witnessing the SCA in action.
It was decided during the February Board of Directors Strategic Planning Session that the association needed to bring on board someone that would have the knowledge to promote our product and this person could be utilized as a tool to speak publicly and provide more marketing services for the association. The Associate Member Advisory Committee is proud to introduce the recent hiring of TxAPA’s Director of Business Relations, Mr. David Kopp, P.E.
Mr. Kopp will be making a presentation on the new TxAPA Educational Tool Kit. TxAPA members will be able to use this Educational Tool Kit as part of a grass roots effort to educate our external customers. Cities, Counties, consultants, Regional Mobility Authorities and possibly even some TxDOT offices are unaware of all of the benefits our products have to offer. Through this tool kit you will be able to help get out our message and if more info is needed contact TxAPA for a follow-up seminar.
Directly following the presentations, everyone is invited to stay for a delicious BBQ dinner, where you can enjoy networking with others in our industry.
There is no registration fee for the showcase and all interested parties are invited to attend, however, we will need an accurate count in order to accommodate everyone. Please fill out the attached registration form and send into the Association Office. We look forward to seeing you on August 10th, 2010.
