Refusal of the Call / Higlac is initially ok with Beowulf’s decision to help the Dane’s because the omens were good, but upon Beowulf’s return expresses that he was anxious about him leaving.
Supernatural Aid / Beowulf gained confidence from his strong belief in fate and good omens.
The Crossing of the First Threshold / Beowulf’s travel from his homeland to the Danish people.
The Belly of the Whale / When Beowulf is descending into the depths of the unknown surrounding Grendel’s lair.
The Road of Trials / Fighting Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and the dragon.
The Meeting with the Goddess / When Hrothgar heeds Beowulf not to become over prideful with stories of past heroes.
Woman as the Temptress / Beowulf’s pride is his temptress as it tempts him to stray from his quests.
Atonement with the Father / When Hrothgar heeds Beowulf not to become over prideful.
Apotheosis / After Beowulf defeats Grendel and his mother, he is in a state of all knowledge and strength. He is in a somewhat a “godly” state, because everyone worships him.
The Ultimate Boon / There is no real ultimate boon, but Beowulf does receive the gift of a well known name. Beowulf becomes rich and eventually the king of the Geats when he returns.
Refusal of the Return / There is no refusal of the return
The Magic Flight / No magic flight, just the return
Rescue from Without / We don’t really read anything about the return of Beowulf, only that he made it there.
