Act of Worship

‘LOVING’

Year 6

God’s love is unconditional and never ending

Focal Point:Lighted candle

Bible (opened at John 15:9-14)

Cross

Any work the children have done on ‘Loving’

Leader:

Sit in a relaxed position…

Put your hands in a cup like position in your lap or let them rest loosely on your knees…

Now let your eyelids close very gently if that is comfortable for you or gaze at the candle…

I want you to become aware of your breathing…

Notice the breath as it enters through your nostrils or mouth when you breathe in and notice the breath as it leaves your body…

Every time you breathe in just say to yourself, ‘IN’…

Every time you breathe out just say to yourself, ‘OUT’…

If your mind wanders just bring it back gently to notice your breathing… In and Out…

Now I’d like you to look for a few moments of the cross and think about how this might remind us of God’s love for us…….God loves us unconditionally but sometimes we forget…..

{Pause for a couple of minutes}

I invite you now to make the sign of the cross to remind us of God’s love… In the name of the Father….

Leader:

Throughout this topic and in lots of the topics we have explored

we have read passages in the Bible that tell us about God’s love,

care and forgiveness.

Listen to these words that from John’s Gospel 15:9-14 in which Jesus speaks of his Father’s love and the greatest love we can have.

Sing ‘Alleluia’ to greet the Gospel

Reader: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to John

Glory to you O Lord.

(remind the children to make the sign of the cross

here; on their heads – to know and understand God’s

Word; lips – to speak God’s Word and heart – to love

God’s Word)

I love you just as the Father loves me; remain

in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father’s commands and remain in his love.

I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My commandment is this: love one another, just as I love you. The greatest love you can have for your friends is to give your life for them. And you are my friends if you do what I command you.

The Gospel of the Lord.

Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ

Leader:

I want you to sit in a relaxed but alert position again…

Become aware once more of your breathing…

As you breathe in it is like breathing in the very love of God,

so when you breathe in say to yourself, “God loves me”

and as you breathe out say, “”Remain in God ”.

Breathing in: “God loves me”…

Breathing out:“Remain in God”…

{Pause for a few moments and

Reflect on how you feel about

God’s love for you}

Leader:

I want you to be aware once again of where you are. Open your eyes if they are closed and become aware of the room we are in. You can return to this quiet place another time. For now let us praise God as we say:

All:Glory be to the Father

and to the Son

and to the Holy Spirit

as it was in the beginning

is now and ever shall be

world without end, Amen.
