The World Congress on Long Term Care in Chinese Communities was held every year since 2002. It is a major event to highlight the advances of development in Long Term Care in different Chinese Communities in the world. The conference was held in Hong Kong in 2002, Taipei in 2004, Shanghai in 2005, Macao in 2006, Beijing in 2007, Singapore in 2008, Taipei in 2009 and Shanghai in 2010. The conference was attended by academics, policy makers, practitioners from various fields related to Long Term Care and each year more than 500 participants from various countries participated in this important event on Long Term Care in Chinese Communities.

In 2011, the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology, in collaboration with the Association of Long Term Care in Chinese Communities, is hosting the 8th World Congress on Long Term Care in Chinese Communities and Asian Ageing Development Conference in Hong Kong, from November 24-26. It also incorporate the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Association of Gerontology.

The conference theme is “3As in Aged Care – Advocacy, Advancement and Achievement”. It integrates the different aspects of aged care and long term care in Chinese Communities and Asian countries.

This conference draws together a diverse range of researchers, practitioners, service providers, policy and planning representatives, educators and others working in all areas of long term care. Invited keynote and plenary speakers from various countries in the region and other countries, as well as symposia, papers, and posters of the latest advances will be presented, along with pre and post conference workshops on specific issues. In addition, we have arranged for interesting field visits covering hospital geriatrics services, community care and institutional care facilities.

Call for Abstracts

The Organizing Committee welcomes abstracts relevant to the theme of the Conference. Please submit the completed abstract submission form and abstract by email and online to the Conference Secretariat, before 15 September 2011 (Thursday). To allow time for the selection panel to consider the submission, you are strongly advised not to miss the deadline.

Abstract Guidelines:

  • Only abstracts submitted in English or Chinese will be reviewed.
  • Your abstract must include the following headings:

§  title,

§  authors,

§  institutions/agencies

§  aim,

§  methods,

§  findings

  • Your abstract is to be a maximum of 300 words (must be typewritten) to describe the scientific content of the component presentations.
  • Abstracts should be original work, not previously presented at an international meeting.
  • Abstract titles should have a short, descriptive title with no abbreviations.
  • Abstract descriptions may not contain tables, pictures, diagrams and symbols.
  • All abbreviations in the text must be spelled out on first use.
  • Abstract titles and descriptions should be thoroughly checked for spelling and grammar.
  • All presenters must paid full registration fee.
  • If required there will be an opportunity for edit and revision on the summary page or after submission via the Presenter Zone page (when the online abstract submission system is available on July 2011).

Organization visits and demonstration workshops
Organization visits and demonstration workshops are parallel sessions arranged on 26th November, 2011 (Saturday) afternoon. Interested participants can either join the visit or workshop. There is a reservation fee HKD100 when you make the registration of each program. The reservation fee will be refunded at the day of visit or workshop. Cheque payment is subjected to each item.
