-Successfully developed and administered one of the nation’s first applied venture capital MBA programs. Focus on due diligence analysis including competitive analysis, market research, financial projections, valuation, business plan development, and financing deal structure. Accomplishments include:

  • Advisor to Ratio U-Patch student business plan – winner of Burrill competition and finished in top eith of Fenwick West/MBA Jungle Business Plan National Competition – Spring 2005.
  • Advised students in Virent Systems and Sonoplot who placed first and second place in the Burrill Business Plan Competition held at the U of Wisconsin – Madison School of Business, 2003.
  • Advised MBA student team – Imago Scientific, winner of the Nasdaq-San Diego State University International Business Plan and 2nd place U of Texas Moot Corporation International Business Plan.
  • Advised MBA student team of Cascade Asset Management, LLC that finished 2nd in a national business plan competition (U. Oregon National Venture Competition).
  • Advising that lead to the formation of several local Madison startup ventures including Uclid Technologies, Errand Solutions, and Power Designers.
  • Advisor to LifeSonics and MEMS Innovation startup ventures that placed first and second, respectively, in the 2002 G. Steven Burrill Technology Business Plan Competition, University of Wisconsin – Madison.
  • Advised and assisted several Wisconsin high-tech startups in various functions including SimplyLook, Gala Design, Sonic Foundry, and Innovatech.

-Successfully developed and implemented a series of seminars titled “Financing the High Growth Enterprise” on financing issues faced by early stage enterprises in the Twin Cities, Feb. 2001 with U of St. Thomas.

-Management development program presented to Brunswick Corporation’s Financial Leadership Development participants on advanced topics in Finance and Managerial Accounting – Activity Based Costing, Acquisitions, Financial Analysis, New Product Development, and Supply Chain Issues through Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.

-Presented management development program on the “Role of Finance in the Supply Chain” for Brunswick Corporation’s SBU finance managers through Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.

-Presented management development program for Abbott Laboratories Pharmaceutical Products Division’s Regional Sales Managers focused on “Integrating Managerial Finance with Sales Strategies” working with Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.

-Developed “Financial Analysis Training” management development programs that included 10 three-day sessions on accounting principles, budgeting, financial ratios, cost accounting, and cash flow including their Eastern Bloc distributors in Budapest, Hungary.

Business Advisory Services :

Finance, Accounting and Business Planning

-Successfully developed business plan for early stage cellular therapy company in Madison area – Summer 2005.

-Successfully provided deposition on valuation of early biotech stage enterprise in legal proceedings regarding valuation of initial company stock offering – Neider/Boucher vs. Stratatech, 2002.

-Successfully developed business plan for Milwaukee-based firm, LightCon USA, to obtain funding for proprietary dimmable electronic ballast used with fluorescent lighting systems.

-Interim CFO for Madison-based analytical instruments startup, Imago Scientific Instruments Corporation. Initial duties included:

  • Assistance in business plan and meetings that successfully obtained $7 million in venture capital financing,
  • Development of management compensation system,
  • Assistance in business development projects in semiconductor industry, long term financing strategy, oversight of company budget system, etc.
  • Development of business plan for spin-off of biopharma service unit to perform 3D analysis of organic samples.
  • Development and monitoring of SBIR grants for biopharma unit.

-Developed business and financing plan for an Illinois-based digital audio device manufacturer and content services provider that sought to raise $5 million in equity financing.

-Successfully developed business plan for a Madison-based, a newly formed biotechnology development company, focused on commercialization of Vitamin D-based technologies. Successfully obtained commitment from Madison-based firm and investors for $5 million dollars in start-up financing. Ultimately signed deal with leading biopharma for up to $50 million.

-Financial and accounting systems advisor to Woodbury, MN early-stage enterprise developing proprietary puncture resistant fabric including completion of business and financial plan. Company successfully obtained commitments for up to $10 million in equity financing and development of financial/accounting ERP system.

-Developed strategic financial plan for DeForest, Wisconsin based agricultural biotechnology firm to assist in structuring a deal for joint venture proposal.

-Performed strategic profitability analysis and acquisition/due diligence analysis for leading travel insurance group.

-Implementation of enterprise reporting systems for small to mid-size manufacturers in the Milwaukee area for Business Data Systems, Sussex, Wisconsin (2 years).

-Litigation analysis provided for Verona, Wisconsin manufacturing client, leading to successful outcome for client in suit versus former employee involved in violation of non-compete agreement.

Abbott Laboratories:

-Successfully doubled the sales in the Abbott Alternate Site Product sales district in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania from $1.25 million in 1993 to over $2.6 million by 1995.

-Named top sales representative of the eastern district – 1994 based on administration, sales, and other key skills.

-Prepared financial analysis for division management including annual and five-year strategic plans, annual activity-based product line analysis, product launches, and potential acquisitions. Major projects included financial analysis and projections for development of $100 million manufacturing facility in Puerto Rico for launch of pediatric Biaxin.

-Performed analysis for numerous licensing deals of pharmaceuticals and anesthesia products for sale internationally including Calcijex, Ultane, Biaxin, and other leading Abbott products.

-Performed, managed, and supervised operational audits of manufacturing and administrative operations for Abbott preparing reports presented to the Corporate Chief Financial Officer.

McDonalds Corporation:

-Performed financial and operational audits of franchisees and third-party suppliers preparing reports for presentation to chief financial officers.

KPMG Peat Marwick. LLP:

-Performed responsibilities of senior auditor including audits and analysis for clients in wide range of industries.

-Selected to KPMG “Private Business Advisory Services” group.
