GOAL 1A = ELA:
Third grade Smart Goals in ELA:
1.Determine Main Idea of an informational text: recount the key details and explain how they support the main idea.
2.Refer to parts of a stories, dramas, and poems when writing or speaking about a literary text, using terms such as chapter, scene, and stanza; describe how each successive part builds on earlier sections.
3.Determine the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a literary text, distinguishing literal from non-literal language.
Fourth Grade SMART Goals in ELA:
1.Applying structural analysis including etymology and context clues to decode and encode words and use graphic organizers and visualization techniques to interpret information.
2.Compare and contrast self-to-text in making connections to characters or simple events in a literary work to own life and other cultures and identify and practice appropriate vocabulary.
3.Develop and apply the proper structure for simple and compound sentences and use editing strategies, proper word choice, spelling, and subject-verb agreement.
Fifth Grade SMART Goals in ELA are:
1.Students will be able to write complete, grammatically correct, sentences in cursive daily.
2.Students will be able to comprehend and analyze and write an opinion piece using several literary texts in the same genre and on similar themes and topics. Students will adequately site the sources as they use them to form a written opinion.
3.Students will be able to compare and contrast stories in literary texts making text-to-text connections, text-to-self connections, and text-to-world connections.
Goal 1B = Math:
Third grade Smart Goals in Math are: 1.Students will use multiplication and division within 100 to solve word problems in situations involving equal groups, arrays and measurement quantities, e.g., by using drawings and equations with a symbol for the unknown number to represent the problem.
2. Students will solve two-step word problems using the four operations, represent these problems using equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies including rounding, and students will also know how to perform operations in the conventional order when there is no parenthesis to specify a particular order (Order of Operations).
3.Students will be able to tell and write time to the nearest minute, measure time intervals in minutes and solve word problems involving addition and subtraction of time intervals in minutes, e.g., by representing the problem on a number line diagram.
Fourth Grade SMART Goals in Math are: 1. Students will use concrete models, benchmark fractions, number line (DOK 2) to model addition and subtraction of mixed numbers with and without regrouping.
2. Students will solve real world problems using mean, median and mode, and solve multi-digit whole number multiplication problems using a variety of strategies, including the standard algorithm, and justify methods used
3. Students will create grade-level real world appropriate story problems using multiple strategies including simple ratios; and will justify the reason for choosing a particular strategy and present results.
Fifth Grade SMART Goals in Math are: 1.Students will solve real world problems by adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions and mixed numbers. Students will understand how to work similar problems with a whole number and a fraction or mixed number.
2. Students will be able to apply the formulas V=l x w x h for solving problems with volume. Students will recognize volume as additive and solve real world problems of two non-overlapping right rectangular prisms by using the formula and adding the volume of the non-overlapping parts.
3. Students will be able to convert among different-sized standard measurement units with given measurement system in solving real world problems to convert like units within a given measurement system. (US Customary and Metric Units)

Goal Measurement Evidence 2: The Employee Code of Conduct (G-24) was reviewed with every Bluefield Intermediate on 8/11/15. Each employee was give a copy of the policy to keep and each confirmed that they received, read and understood the contents. The policies and procedures sign off form states that by signing the form the person named understands that is mandatory to fully comply. Everyone signed their own copy of the sign off sheet. This included the long term PE sub, the 5th grade sub and the extra part-time Special Education teacher. The 5th grade permanent teacher received her copies of the policies and signed on 8/27/15. The regular PE teacher is schedules to return from educational leave on 9/8/15 and the policy will be reviewed and a sign off sheet provided at that time. All BIS staff agreed to a social contract at the beginning of the school year. All students design and sign a "social contract of expected behaviors in each of their classrooms. These are part of the "Capturing Kids' Hearts" training that the teachers have had and implement within their classrooms. The student calendars are provided to every child and it contains the county policies. These are read to the students followed by questions and answers and class discussions. The calendars are sent home for parents and guardians to review and sign off that they have been read with their child. The sign off sheet is returned and kept in the students homeroom file. Title I parent, student, and teacher compacts are given to each child according to their grade level. These contain academic achievement expectations for the student, the teacher and the parent. Live Grades information is sent home with each student that contains the parent sign-on and password to view and keep up their child's progress in each subject area. Beaver Bucks are earned by students and a day is set aside each nine weeks for students to send their "bucks" at the Beaver Store. Good behavior celebrations are held each nine weeks and students are honored for Perfect Attendance and A and B Honor Rolls each nine weeks. The Honor Roll is also published in the local newspaper each nine weeks. All teachers are given a nomination form each month to select a student to be named that month's student of the month. Their picture is taken and a label is printed with the reason(s) they earned the award. They are presented with an award and become the students that say the pledge each morning over the intercom. B.I.S. is also a P.B.I.S. school and we have developed the following: a "Beaver Bistro" at lunch to honor well behaving students each day. They get to enter the line first, sit at a special table decorated with a table cloth, cushioned chairs, and flowers, each week one classroom from each grade will will the grade level banner that will be hung in their classroom for the week, the "Happy" song is played over the intercom each morning and students are reminded that "Little Beavers Are H.A.P.P.Y." = H is for helpful, A is for accepting responsibility, P is for participate, P is for prepared and Y is for "It Does Matter What We Do and What We Say". Banners with this information are hung up all around the school as reminders for the students and two large banners are on the pillars at the school's entrance.
