BCTC 2009-2010 Calendar

In December 2007, the KCTCS Presidents Leadership Team approved a common start week and common end week for all KCTCS colleges beginning Fall 2009 (aka KCTCS RAMP Proposal). This is a window in which all colleges should start and end the semester facilitating a common end-of-term processing date.

Currently, BCTC’s semesters are 16 weeks having 15 weeks of instruction with one week for fall/spring break. There isone additional week for final examinations each semester. We begin classes the same week as the University of Kentucky(i.e. Fall 2008 - we begin on Saturday and UK on Wednesday). Because of Cooper Campus’ proximity to UK, BCTC students’ use of UK services/ housing,as well as, both BCTC & UK students who take courses at Cooper and UK, there have been concerns raised about the effect of moving the BCTC start date.

Technical programs that involve extended clinical and/or lab hours can request the Vice President of Academic Affairs approve an exception so that the program(s) can begin classes one week earlier. Programs approved to begin prior to the general start date for BCTC will still follow the dates listed in the 15-week calendar for all other activities (last day to add/withdraw, etc.). All BCTC courses will have a common end date as specified in the BCTC calendar.

  • We are unable to determine the number of BCTC students who takeUK classes.
  • Another impactisthe potential for some courses to not "make" without the enrollment of UK students, particularly science and math.
