Holiday Volunteer Opportunities

We know many of you have asked how you can help others at the holidays, and we want to share a few ways that you and your families can do that.

Good Shepard Parish in Wayland organizes volunteers to help prepare and deliver Thanksgiving and Christmas meals toWayland seniors, shut-ins, Parmenter patients, hospice residences, Family Promise families, homeless people, and SMOC clients, as well as several other agency clients in the area

Shir Tikva members are welcome to volunteer for these wonderful projects.

Family Promise: Save the Date!

Sunday, January 7 – Sunday, January 21

For two weeks in early January, Temple Shir Tikva will be hosting guest families from Family Promise Metrowest, a transitional shelter program. During this time, we share our TST home by creating a cozy space on the second floor, consisting of bedrooms, a living room, and kitchen. The guest families arrive each day in time for dinner and stay overnight, departing early in the morning for their work and school routines. Please support FPM by volunteering with us during these weeks!

If you are interested in volunteering in a capacity in which you will interact with Family Promise guests, all volunteers over 12-years old must attend a one-time ninety-minute FPM training (please note: volunteers of all ages are welcome; those under 12 do not need to attend the training). Upcoming trainings will be offered on Thurs Nov 30 at St Paul’s Church in Natick or Tues Dec 12 at St. Andrew’s Church in Framingham, both from 7:00-8:30 pm. There are volunteer opportunities for those who are not trained to participate as well.

Information on signing up to volunteer will be provided in late November, for now please save the dates!

For any questions on Family Promise, please contact Wendy Newman at or Susan Cohen at .

Volunteer Opportunity: Pearl Street Cafe

Temple Shir Tikva provides volunteer servers on the first Thursday of every month at Pearl Street Cafe in Framingham. Operated by the United Way, Pearl Street Cafe is a warm and welcoming place where those struggling with food insecurity can enjoy a “community supper.”

Volunteer adults, and children over 10 accompanied by an adult, act as wait staff, serving guests a freshly prepared, restaurant-style meal. Volunteers must arrive for set up at 5:00 pm and clean up is completed by 8:00 pm. This is a wonderful and rewarding Mitzvah opportunity.
