· 2011 Tournament Hosts: The 2010/2011 tournament schedule is attached. If interested in hosting any of the OPEN tournaments, please contact Lou Christen at 310-331-5138 or . This is a great opportunity for members to “give back” to the club plus as host you’ll receive $50.00 off the tournament fee and have the first tee time!
· Posting a tournament score: During a routine audit of past tournaments, some errors were found. The errors found were as follow:
o Did not post score after tournament round
o Did not post score as a “tournament”
o Did not adjust score per the ESC (see below on explanation of ESC)
Please refer to the instructions below on “How to post a tournament score”
· Equitable Stroke Control (ESC): ESC exists so a few bad holes cannot skew your handicap index. This makes your handicap more representative of your potential vs an average. Here is the definition from the USGA:
o All scores for handicap purposes, including tournament scores, are subject to the application of Equitable Stroke Control (ESC). This mandatory procedure reduces high hole scores for handicap purposes in order to make handicaps more representative of a player's potential ability.
What's that mean? Basically it means you can't ever score an 11 on a hole for handicapping purposes. If your handicap is low enough you probably can't even record a score over double bogey. Below is the chart we now use to identify a player's max score per hole:
Course Handicap / Score9 or less / Double Bogey
10 through 19 / 7
20 through 29 / 8
30 through 39 / 9
40 or more / 10
· SCGA: The SCGA Goes Mobile: The SCGA recently launched a mobile website, mobile.scga.org. From their favorite mobile device, SCGA members can now post scores, access course information, lookup Handicap Indexes, calculate Course Handicaps and search the Rules of Golf. For instructions and more information, visit scga.org/mobile.
· SCGA Member Outings offer SCGA members and guests the opportunity to play in a non-competitive, championship- quality setting at some of the region’s finest private and public courses, many of which are not often available to most SCGA members. Facilities that host SCGA Member Outings have the opportunity to align themselves with the SCGA brand and open their course to the core golf market in Southern California.
