~ There is a CHARGE Conference July 24-26 2009 in Bloomingdale at the
IndianLakes Resort. There will be an informal get-together on Thursday evening. Childcare will be provided for all children that have registered for childcare during the meetings on Friday, Saturday and Sunday; interpreters and nurses will be available as needed. They are looking for volunteers during the conference to help with childcare (those who can sign and interpret), as well as toys donated for the kids to play with. 2. "Hands Working Together for Behavioral and Academic Success" is the title of an article about the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at the JohnPowersCenter in Vernon Hills. JohnPowersCenter is the ISRC demonstration site for PBIS in a DHH program.

4. Deaf Scientist Corner is a site dedicated to over 30 famous Deafscientists. One may search by scientific field or scientist name for thevarious biographies. There is a section for references and teacherresources, in addition to the table of contents. The teacher resources forthis site can be found at The purpose of the Wiki is forteachers to be able to exchange ideas, lesson plans, science experiments, and videos related to each scientist's field of study. It is our goal that, as a teacher, you will be able to use this site as a resource and teaching tool. The biographies found within the Website have been carefully writtenfor a target reading level of 3rd-4th grade. Occasionally you will find thata sentence or two will contain content-related vocabulary that significantlyincreases the reading level of the biography. We have attempted to rectifythat by providing links to outside resources, sign language video clips, andthe items being referred to. Check it out
5. The National Center for Deaf Health Research in association with TheUniversity of Rochester Medical Center has created a culmination ofinformation and resources about the recent health scare surrounding H1N1 fluor Swine Flu. There is a question and answer series in sign language andprint as well as multiple other resources in the same fashion. Please check out this fabulous information and share it with your students. It isimportant that they stay informed and have access to resources that they understand.
6. In our Library - Movers & shakers: deaf people who changed the world byCathryn Carroll & Susan M. Mather In this book the tales of twenty-six deafand hard of hearing persons are investigated. They are stories of genius,struggle, perseverance and heroism. Take a look, share with your students,and pass it on. This is one we all need in our libraries!
