Subject: Praxis II changes
Importance: High
Hello all,
This e-mail is to let you know about some of the more noteworthy upcoming changes to Praxis II assessment offerings. Please forward the information to interested parties.
1)In order to ensure the most current information, direct candidates to the ETS website specific to Idaho’s required and approved assessments:
2)Candidates who take a non-Idaho approved assessment will be required to re-take the applicable Idaho approved assessment and pass with an Idaho approved score.
3)ETS will no longer offer the Physical Science: Content Knowledge 0481 assessment. The date of last administration will be June 2014.
4)Candidates seeking the Physical Science endorsement will now have a choice of taking and passing one of the following assessments based on their emphasis of area:
Chemistry: Content Knowledge 5245, or
Physics: Content Knowledge 5265, or
General Science: Content Knowledge 5435
5)The Professional Standards Commission will look at best practices to determine what test(s) is/are most applicable when the Physical Science standards are reviewed.
6)All paper-based tests will be replaced with the applicable computer-delivered versions. Paper delivery of Praxis II tests will be discontinued beginning September 1, 2014. The last national paper administration will be Saturday June 7, 2014.
7)The ETS Praxis Series for Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects has been regenerated and assigned a new code. The series 5031 is now 5001, with corresponding subtests as follows:
OldNew
All 5031 5001
Reading/LA 5032 5002
Mathematics 5033 5003
Social Studies 5034 5004
Science 5035 5005
8)The new test begins in September, 2014, and the old one will be available until August, 2015. This overlap in availability is to ensure candidates have time to finish retakes of the old series subtests.
9)The two series, 5031 and 5001, must be taken as a set and the subtests cannot be mixed. In other words, if a candidate takes 5031 (5032, 5033, 5034, 5035) and fails one subtest, the retake must be for the same series. The test taker may run out of time to retake a portion and then be required to take the entire series over, so we strongly encourage you to inform all candidates to begin with the new series (5001) and not the old series (5031) when they are ready to test for Elementary Education.
Please contact my office if you have questions or concerns. I appreciate your time and attention to this information.
Sincerely,
Cina Lackey
