Assessment Project
Technology and Assessment
11/14/16
Problem
1. The goal of this program is to measure the five components of employees at a worksite. Measurements will be taken for body fat percentage, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance.
Refining the Problem
2. The employees in the target population range from 30 to 60 years old, both male and female and are of varying fitness levels.
Pretest and posttest
3. A pretest will be given to all employees consisting of a pushup test, a sit-up test, and a timed 1 mile run. Measurements will also be taken for flexibility using a sit and reach, and for body fat using skin calipers. Participants will be evaluated by maximum number of pushups until failure, number of sit-ups performed in 1 minute, and the time for a 1 mile run/walk. Men will perform standard pushups with a straight torso toes on the ground, while women have the option of performing pushups with their knees on the ground. The 1 mile run/walk can be performed at whatever pace the participant feels comfortable with, and will be assessed on a track. These tests were chosen as they provide a quality assessment of the desired components of fitness, are safe and easy to perform, and test each individual at their own ability. The same test will be administered at the end of the program, with the goal of individuals seeing improvement in their scores.
4. Participants will be measured on the five components of fitness, body fat percentage, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and cardiovascular endurance.
Instrumentation and Methodology
5. Scores will be measured based on the following scales

Skin Fold Measurement Averages
Skin Fold Measurements will be made using a skin caliper on seven sites on the body. The sites are the tricep, bicep, subscapula, and suprailiac. The sum of these measurements (in millimeters) is added and can be based on the below chart. More information on how to administer skin fold measurements can be found at

Flexibility
Flexibility will be measured using a sit and reach. Participants will get measurements pretest and posttest with the goal of seeing improvements posttest.
Cardiovascular Endurance
Participants will take timed a 1 mile run/walk on a track. Their results will be compared to the following chart, measured in minutes: seconds.
