A Note to Students and Parents about Your Math Class (Algebra II/Trig and Precalculus)

East Limestone High School has been chosen to be an A+ College Ready school. This means that the goal is to prepare students for college. As a result, there are some things I want to bring to your attention about this class.

)This is a rigorous class meaning that you may need to put forth more time and effort in this class than in previous classes. Your success in this class is largely dependent upon you. I am here to instruct and to help, but ultimately it is up to you.

)Don’t settle for mediocre. Go over and beyond.

)Be dedicated. Persevere. Give your ALL. Do your BEST.

)The struggle is a necessary part of the process.

)Stay focused and on task. Be engaged. Multitasking means your mind isn’t focused on a single topic. This is not good, especially if you are struggling.

)Ask good questions. Seek help. Don’t sit back expecting to just get it. Work for it!

)Do you need to brush up on your Algebra I skills? Use the internet, buy some software, get someone to help, etc.

)Come in for extra help.

)Study everyday. Putting forth real effort in class and on homework is part of that study process. Don’t cram at the last minute! Most likely you won’t remember as much for very long. You won’t feel confident in your abilities. In addition, waiting to the last minute makes it difficult to get help.

)Learn the rules. Do NOTkeep depending on your notes or someone else. Practice without that crutch!

)Be prepared everyday.

)Read the text. Search online.

)Check Google Classroom everyday for announcements and assignments.

)Are you doing your homework with the intended purpose in mind or writing something down to say that you have completed the assignment? Are you copying someone else’s work? Are you just writing down the answers?

)Be in class if at all possible. Time out of class (for whatever reason) hinders your progress.

)Why do teachers ask you to show your work? Writing out your work (1) shows your thought process, (2) helps you remember longer, and (3) leaves a trail for you and others to follow.

)Be HONEST with yourself and with others about what is really happening.

)I am a firm believer in reaping what you sow. There are consequences to the choices we make.
