International Support Team Coordinator (Europe)
The International Team, the Scout Association
Introduction
The International Team’s key purpose is to provide an engaging programme of internationally-focused activities that help young people to develop the skills, knowledge and attitudes to function in an ever-changing, fast-paced and globalised world. We aim to provide young people with opportunities to make a positive contribution in the world, helping other people and being active, global citizens who take social action to help other Scouts and the wider community.
The International Team supports a wide variety of activities to help promote the international dimension in the UK and overseas to deliver these key objectives. We support the global scouting programme with badges and awards- and through activities such as international links, jamborees, international exchange programmes and Jamboree on the Internet/Jamboree on the Air. The activities provide practical ‘International’ experiences whilst in the UK to young people and help to develop global citizenship qualities.
As part of our vision to 2018, we have reviewed how we support the International and global aspects of the programme. The Scout Active Support Unit is undergoing a period of transition from a number of separate units to a single structure supported by one manager and team. The manager will be required to support the transition to a single structure. This will include appointing and leading a team of coordinators, agreeing a service agreement for the Unit and promotion of the new SASU to the movement.

Objectives of the International SASU are to:
· Support the international team to fulfil their role in promoting and developing international Scouting and the global Programme.
· Support local Sections, Districts and Counties to deliver global programme and safely organise international visits
· Enable as many young people as possible to have an international experience
· Development of programme ideas and resources to enhance the global programme
· Share good practice, ideas and experience to help members of the movement to deliver international opportunities to young people
· Provide activities and information at large scale events
· Organise events to enable members to learn and share new skills
· Promote and develop the UK Scout Associations reputation internationally to further provide opportunities for young people in the UK
ROLE DESCRIPTION
International Support Team Coordinator (Europe)
Outline of the role:
To assist the Unit Manager in the effective administration and planning of events for the SAS Unit in accordance with Policy Organisation and Rules of The Scout Association.
Delivering against the objectives set out in the International Support Team (IST SASU) Service agreement as agreed with the unit manager. Coordinating and reporting of IST SASU activities.
Responsible for: Project team and SASU members
Responsible to: International Support Team Manager
Main contacts:
HQ Staff and Volunteers, other SASU Coordinators, Assistant County Commissioners International, Assistant Regional Commissioners (Scotland) International, Assistant Area Commissioners International, SASU members, Other SASU managers
Main tasks:
- Plan and support a unit annual conference
- Support and attend national and local events where agreed with the Unit manager
- Supply content for the production of the Units Annual report and other unit communications
- Help develop national initiatives such as explorer belts, expeditions and programme support materials
- Support and manage small teams of volunteers to deliver projects and programmes of work within set parameters and in line with Association rules.
- Encourage members to undertake their own International adventures within the UK and overseas, helping to offer a quality experience for young people.
- Develop relationships with other National Scout Associations to grow the opportunities for UK members overseas.
- Support young people to lead International Adventures within the UK and overseas to develop their skills to become the next generation of International champions.
Person requirements:
Essential
· Experience of developing relationships
· Ability to manage own time and workload.
· Experience of leading a team.
· Computer/IT literate.
· Access to the internet and suitable computing facilities.
· To understand and accept The Scout Association’s policies and undertake satisfactory DBS clearance and be able to follow the Associations yellow card policy.
· Experience of working in a virtual environment without frequent face to face contact
· leading a team
· Project management
Desirable
· Knowledge/experience of International Scouting.
· Knowledge/experience of International affairs. (E.g, Political, cultural and diplomatic situations)
· Knowledge/ experience of Youth Programme
· Experience of supporting and managing adults
· Experience of organising and chairing meetings remotely
