Welcome to World History. We all have worked very hard to make sure this is a challenging and rewarding, yet also fun class. This is a very important class as it will prepare you to pass the Social Studies portion of the Ohio Graduation Test in March of your sophomore year. We look forward to working with you this year!

General Information:

1. The textbook we are using is World History: The Modern Era. Each student is

assigned a book and is responsible for the return of the textbook at the end of the year.

Replacement cost is $80. You are expected to cover the book and keep it covered the

entire year.

2. This textbook is available to students online at You

can access this application by typing the username and password. They are as

follows:

3. Each student is expected to have a pen/pencil, paper, and textbook everyday. You are

also required to have a three ring binder.

4. This course covers modern World History from the Scientific Revolution to the present. It is

designed to educate students on diverse and controversial issues in World History and to

help student’s make connections on how these events and people have shaped today’s world.

At the same time, it is also designed to prepare you for the upcoming O.G.T.. Students will be

challenged to think critically and will be asked to evaluate, analyze, and formulate opinions.

5. A weekly schedule will be posted in the room each week for students to check if they

are absent.

6. Class participation is important for optimal success in this classroom.

7. Attendance is very important!! If you are absent from school, it is your

responsibility to get missed work and turn it in.

a. For every day you’re absent, you have that many days to turn in missed work.

Class Guidelines:

1. Be on time and in your seat BEFORE the bell rings.

2. Raise your hand if you have a question, comment, or answer.

3. Come to class prepared-- Going to your locker for forgotten items will result in

receiving a tardy.

4. No food or drink in class.

5. Do your own work!! Cheating will result in a zero for that assignment or test.

6. Restroom privileges are given only for emergencies. You will receive one pass per

week.

7. DO YOUR BEST!!!

Consequences:

1. Student will receive a respectful warning.

2. 1 hour detention.

3. 3 hour detention and parental contact.

4. Sent to office-- Possible removal from class

Grading Procedures:

1. All grades are recorded on a point system.

2. Percentages are figured by dividing the individuals points by total points.

3. Grading scale will be structured according to the guidelines of the Marlington Local School

District.

4. 60% of the grade will be based on academic achievement items and 40% of the grade will consist

of academic process items.

-- Academic Achievement assessments include tests, (pop) quizzes, projects, and other

assigned activities.

-- Academic Process assessments include homework, review questions, and class

participation.

-- Teacher discretion will determine which assignment is included in each category.

5. Extra credit will be decided by the teacher and may be given periodically throughout

the nine weeks.

6. Late work will greatly affect your grade and is highly discouraged.

~You have three school days to turn in any late work for 50% credit. This INCLUDES any days you are absent.

~After that, NO CREDIT will be given for the assignment.

8. Important Note: Cheating will result in a zero for the assignment.

*** Copying and allowing others to copy ANY AND ALL WORKIS cheating and will result in a zero for all people involved***
