Position Definition: General Kitchen Help II is a 10 month position directly responsible to the Kitchen Manager. His/her main responsibility is to serve the district population attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness and friendliness. His/her duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

►In the absence of the Kitchen Manager, assumes the responsibilities of that employee.

►Has specialized responsibilities in addition to those of General Kitchen Help I employees.

►Maintains the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.

►Prepares food according to the menu and assures that the finished product is the best quality both in flavor and appearance.

►Performs a variety of tasks including but not limited to serving, cleaning, dishwashing, cashier, bank deposits and food prep.

►Perform any other duties and/or responsibilities assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

Education level minimum equal to a high school diploma or GED.

Ability to think and act independently when situations arise where quick

decisions are critical.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Maturity and ability to lead staff members. This person must be the example in all ways for the staff.

Basic knowledge of the rules and regulations of the National School Lunch Program.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized and non-standardized situations.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, technical manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before individuals and employees of the organization. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The employee is regularly required to use the phone, a computer, and kitchen equipment.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. The noise level and temperature in the work environment is usually moderate with occasional variations due to food heating equipment and non-climate controlled areas.
