“Adjusting to Climate Change”

Professor Steve Running, UM Department of Ecosystem Sciences

Professor Running’s primary research is in the development of global and regional ecosystem biogeochemical models. As a chapter Lead Author for the 4th Assessment of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, Prof. Running shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.

“From Wars to Pandemics: Thinking about Security Threats”

Professor Karen Ruth Adams, UM Department of Political Science

Professor Adams teaches and writes about international relations and international security, and serves as the Montana Model UN faculty advisor. Prof. Adams has published articles and chapters on the causes, conduct, and consequences of the US wars in Kosovo and Iraq. She is currently writing a book on State Survival and Security.

“Development as a Drug Control Strategy”

Professor Abhishek Chatterjee, UM Department of Political Science

Professor Chatterjee has written about the origins of states and financial markets in India and the US, and about the philosophy and conduct of research in the social sciences. Prof. Chatterjee teaches courses on political economy, state formation, and comparative politics.

“Strengthening Security and Cooperation in the Arctic and Antarctic”

Professor Anne Klene, UM Department of Geography

Dr. Klene specializes in Arctic and Alpine environments, permafrost/climate interactions, and temporal and spatial variability in climate. She has traveled widely, especially in the Arctic. Recently, Prof. Klene taught a field course on permafrost in West Siberia and attended conferences in Norway on Climate Change and Indigenous Peoples, the International Polar Year, and the European Permafrost Conference in Svalbard.

“The Role of Women in Development”

Professor Kimber McKay, UM Department of Anthropology

Professor McKay is a cultural anthropologist who teaches and writes on issues ranging from the effects of

marriage systems on fertility to the use of sustainable energy in developing countries and the role of traditional

healers in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Prof. McKay has designed studies of health conditions and evolving attitudes

toward health and treatment of illness in remote areas of Nepal and Uganda.
