Call to Order-Cindy Abbott / This meeting was called to order at 9:05 a.m.
Welcome and Introduction / Introductions of attendees.
Review of Minutes / The minutes of the January 2012meeting were distributed to members. / The minutes were accepted by committee as written.
Tri County Healthy Weight Coalition –Sharon Cooper / The coalition roster continues to grow. Group agreed to continue to increase awareness and focus on programs aimed at youth--current services, water safety, recess, healthy meetings in school, and BMI calculations.
We now have a preliminary mission statement:
“To promote healthy lifestyle practices to achieve a healthy body weight among tri-county area children and families.”
In the process of creating goals and objectives. Next meeting in 2 weeks.
Tri County Diabetes Coalition – Mimi Dean / The Coalition ispresently working on the Tri County Healthiest Restaurant Challenge. The goal is to see who can score the highest rated healthy entrée. Seven (7) restaurants are participating. The challenge begins March 1 and the winners will be recognized at the Public Health Week Conference on April 4th.
Overview of the Tri-County CHIP Activities – Jane Apson / Developing objectives/direction to apply for $50,000 grant that is due by March 15, 2012.
Revisions to the Tri-County Health Improvement Plan to include health disparities. / It was the consensus to move forward with applying for the $50,000 initial application focusing on at least 2 staff members from each LHD getting trained on the National Diabetes Prevention Program (Lifestyle change) and presenting at least 1 program in each county to begin activities necessary for national certification, before the end of the grant period. Next focus on developing robust public awareness.
Local Updates - All / AHEC – Audrey Wahl
A 2-DayGeriatric Assessment Interdisciplinary Team training programis scheduled for March and April. Dates are Thursday, March 22 and Friday, March 23 at Atlantic General Hospital and Tuesday, April 17 and Wednesday, April 18 at HealthSouth Chesapeake Rehabilitation Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland.
Jake Frego is working on an initiative called Mission of Mercy (MOM) which focuses on oral health. The next MOM meeting will be held March 22, 2012 at Avery Hall at PRMC.
Somerset County Health Dept. –Cindy Abbott
Applied for the Community Transformation Funds – proposal to work with the schools/Board of Ed to get needed information.
Applied for Diabetes Federal HRSA Grant
Next Meeting / The next Tri-County Health Planning Board meetingwill be held onApril 25, 2012. Wicomico County Health Department will host.
