8th grade Agenda for the Week of 12/5 – 12/9

Assignments due this and next week (and beyond):

•Exercises 6 and 7 on pages 641-643 of the grammar text are due Tues., 12/6.

•Exercises 8 and 9 on pages 643-646 of the grammar text are due Wed., 12/7.

•Students will take a vocabulary quiz over Lessons 3 and 4 on Wed., 12/7.

•A worksheet on appositives and nouns of direct address is due Thurs., 12/8.

•A summary of pages 28-48 of Fahrenheit 451 is due Fri., 12/9. Please share your summary with Mr. Wenz on Google Drive.

•The Lesson 5 vocabulary exercises are due on Fri., 12/9.

Monday, 12/5

  1. The group questions for pages 14-28 of Fahrenheit 451 are now past due. Share your answers with Mr. Wenz ASAP if you haven’t already done so.
  2. The next 20 pages of the novel are for independent study. Please check your packet for summary directions and submit a summary of these 20 pages by this Fri., 12/9.
  3. Read about appositives and appositive phrases on pages 432-433, 547, and 641 and words of direct address on p. 642. Then complete Exercise 13 on page 433 in class.
  4. Homework:
  1. Complete Exercises 6 and 7 on pages 641-643 before class tomorrow.
  2. Begin studying the Lessons 3 and 4 vocabulary words and roots. Students will take a quiz over these lessons on Wednesday.

Tuesday, 12/6

  1. Check answers to Exercises 6 and 7 on pages 641-643.
  2. Read about parenthetical expressions on p. 643 and introductory words, phrases, and clauses on pages 644-645.
  3. Homework:

Wednesday, 12/14

  1. Submit the Lessons 5-6 vocab review exercises, all problems.
  2. Students will break into groups and continue working on the group assignment for pages 48-68 of Fahrenheit 451, which is due tomorrow.
  3. Homework: study the Lessons 5-6 vocabulary words and roots. Students will take a quiz over these lessons in class tomorrow.

Thursday, 12/15

  1. Students have ten minutes to study for the Lessons 5-6 vocabulary words and roots. Then students will take a quiz over these lessons.
  2. Group questions over pages 48-68 of Fahrenheit 451are due today by the end of the period. If you have any of these questions still to answer, work on them after taking the vocabulary quiz.
  3. Coming up after winter break:
  1. We’ll begin studying clauses and sentence types.
  2. We’ll continue doing vocabulary lessons and taking quizzes on them.
  3. We’ll finish Fahrenheit 451 about the fourth week of 3rd quarter; we’ll then pick up Animal Farm, which is the shortest book we will read this year, and examine it until the end of 3rd quarter.
  4. We’ll continue to engage in several writing tasks.
