Description: Quarterly Report for Mirage Elementary June 5, 2009

We finished the DIBELS, MAZE, and Moving With Math post assessments in May and shared the results with all grade level at the end of May.

Some plans for next year are to have the reading teachers and EL teachers in on the data

chats for planning RTI next year. We also will look at the math screener we use and may use the new adoption’s math materials now that we are more familiar with the Envisions program. We will be changing the comprehension, MAZE, assessment and use the AIMSweb assessment. This has passages with every seventh word omitted and three choices, instead of a sentence with three choices. We have been using the AIMSweb for progress monitoring.

The Coach/Reading Specialist will be compiling the observations in a format similar to the one presented by ADE to share with the teachers to look at trends and areas of improvement.

Title I funding is paying for a full time Math Specialist. This should help with all populations in math.

Marsha Morgan, working as a consultant for the district, will work with Kindergarten to improve effectiveness with centers and Guided Reading. There is a two day workshop the kindergarten teachers are attending this summer.

Kindergarten is also screening all incoming kindergarteners the last week in July so they have a better balance in the classrooms.

First Grade ORF decreased from last year, but we had two teachers new to first and the numbers were high. The “at risk” for ORF for first grade was 11% at the end of the year. A significant number of the first graders are participating in raz-kids.com for an on-line reading program for the summer. We also have 6 students attending summer school.

Second Grade had four teachers and lower class sizes. Their “at risk” for ORF was 14% and “low risk” was 74%. Math was 80% “low risk” even with a new adoption.

Third Grade has made progress from when we started to take data in 2004 – 2005, but 56% “low risk” is still a concern. On the other hand, the comprehension assessment MAZE was 86% “low risk”. It will be interesting to compare these scores to AIMS this summer.

Fourth Grade had 57% “low risk” in ORF and 86% in MAZE. Again we need to look at how this correlates to AIMS.

Fifth Grade had 59% “low risk” for ORF and 81% for MAZE. They have stayed about the same over time.

Sixth Grade had 48% “low risk” at the end of the year. This was a decline from the beginning of the year, which was 74%. This could be attitude and not ability. Their MAZE went from 19% “at risk” to 8% “at risk”.

The crossyear data and the overall percentages will be included with this report.

Some of the data that the Leadership Team still needs to look at over the summer is the number of students with ILP’s and how many of those students improved because of RTI.
