Call to order and brief introductions

Welcome to new members and attendees!

Guest Speaker: Kent Kittleson, PT, Courage Kenny Rehab Institute, Manager, River Falls Area Hospital, Fall Risk Assessment and Fall Prevention

Ø  Focal points from the talk:

o  Benefits of proximity between PR and CR departments discussed

o  Identification of: contributing factors of falls, varied tests for balance, exercises that specifically decrease the occurrence of falls

o  Recognizing when to refer to PT or PCP

o  Negative statistics that result from the population where falls occur, ie hospital rates, injury rates, costs, disability, etc.

o  Causes of falls

o  Quick testing for falls including: Timed Get Up and Go, 30 second Chair Stand Test, 4 Stage Balance Test

o  Exercises for fall prevention—procedure was shared from River Falls where cardiac rehab follows a procedure for strengthening before referring to PT for patients who are identified as a fall risk

New Business:

1.  AACVPR Certification and CCRP updatesàUpdates provided from group

Ø  Revisions to the 2018 certification process reviewed, ie pre and post program assessment reporting. We will be expected to report on the following domains and the processes our staff is actively engaged in to improve the patient outcomes for these domains

Ø  Cardiac: BP control, functional capacity, risk factors, psych/soc status

Ø  Pulmonary: Functional capacity, dyspnea, quality of life, 02 titration/tx

Ø  CCRP exam will be offered at the WISCPHR state conference again this year

Ø  Study guide for exam is currently being updated, which entails primarily formatting changes

2.  Review of WISCPHR webcast: “Nutrition in Pulmonary Rehabilitation” by Ellen Schaaf Aberegg from November 3, 2015

3.  Student Poster Presentations Offered at WISCPHR annual conferenceàDawn Hoff

Ø  Approved by BOD

Ø  Open to students only

Ø  Criteria for posters same as AACVPR

Ø  Application process

Ø  Deadline for applications: February 15th, 2016

Ø  Students will be notified by: March 10th, 2016

Ø  Potential price of conference (TBA) was discussed, with concerns/apprehension expressed by the group

6.  WISCHPR Newsletter for September 2016

Ø  NW region is responsible

Ø  Members interested in sharing points of interest, new projects, etc from their programs encouraged to share via an article

Ø  The writing of these articles can be good projects for interns

Ø  Articles can be submitted to Heidi Ramsey, , at any time

Ø  Patients coming in “off the street” for Phase 3àformal health screen is done by some programs, this is often waved in the case the patient came from PR or Phase 2 CR

Ø  CHF referral rates

Ø  Update on co-pay issues and potential positive changes as recently reviewed by Karen Lui via Medicare update

Ø  Audit information from the Department of Health and Human Resources shared and discussed

Ø  Bonnie Anderson was contacted via speaker call to offer her opinion on CHF referrals/restarts in Phase 2

Ø  HIIT

Ø  Documentation tools used during sessions shared

Ø  Methods shared, ie: RPE driven vs HR driven

Ø  Phase 2 insurance issues discussed
