A unique opportunity currently exists within the Ministry of the Attorney General for you to apply your knowledge as you investigate and report on all matters relating to the jurisdiction of the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee.

What can I expect to do in this role?

What can I expect to do in this role?
You will:
• conduct investigations into the financial and legal affairs of clients, including locating and securing assets, making reports and recommendations for management
• conduct guardianship investigations of persons who are allegedly mentally incapable and at risk of serious personal or financial harm, including interviewing individuals, locating and gathering information/evidence on capacity and risk of harm
• participate in case conferences, appearing in court and assisting, where necessary, in the apprehension of new personal care clients
• travel extensively throughout Ontario, including to remote locations in order to carry out investigations

How do I qualify?

Mandatory

• you are proficient in oral and written French at the Superior Level

Technical Knowledge

• you demonstrate knowledge of mental health problems, cognitive impairment, indicators of abuse or neglect and techniques to identify risk factors for individuals regarding health nutrition and safety to enable recognition and course of appropriate action through the investigation
• you have knowledge of investigative and appraisal techniques to conduct investigations and evaluate, transfer and secure assets as required
• you have the ability to interpret and apply relevant legislation (e.g. Substitute Decisions Act, Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act) and related statutes, to ensure compliance with statutory requirements
• you have proven knowledge and understanding of issues commonly faced by vulnerable persons relating to their property and personal care

Analytical and Mediation Skills

• you have proven analytical skills to develop an investigative plan, determine and assess necessary information required and make recommendations based on information gathered through investigation
• you have tact, diplomacy and mediation skills to manage contentious issues and resolve or diffuse disputes

Vous devrez :
• mener des enquêtes sur les affaires financières et juridiques des clientes et des clients, y compris en localisant et en protégeant des avoirs ainsi qu'en produisant des rapports et en formulant des recommandations à l'intention des cadres;
• mener des enquêtes relatives à la tutelle de personnes prétendument frappées d'incapacité mentale et exposées à des risques de préjudices personnels ou financiers graves, notamment en interrogeant des tiers ainsi qu'en trouvant et en recueillant de l'information ou des éléments de preuve sur les capacités des personnes faisant l'objet d'une enquête et leurs risques de subir des préjudices;
• prendre part à des conférences préparatoires, comparaître devant les tribunaux et participer, au besoin, à l'arrestation de nouvelles clientes et de nouveaux clients de soins personnels;
• effectuer de nombreux déplacements partout en Ontario, y compris dans des régions éloignées, pour y mener des enquêtes.

• Maîtrise du français oral et écrit de niveau supérieur.

Connaissances techniques

• Connaissance des problèmes de santé mentale, des déficiences cognitives, des indices de mauvais traitements ou de négligence et des techniques permettant de cerner les facteurs de risque relatifs à la santé, à l'alimentation et à la sécurité des personnes pour pouvoir reconnaître ces facteurs et prendre les mesures appropriées pendant les enquêtes.
• Connaissance des techniques d'enquête et d'évaluation pour mener des enquêtes et pour évaluer, transférer et protéger les avoirs, selon les besoins.
• Capacité d'interpréter et d'appliquer les lois pertinentes (par exemple la Loi de 1992 sur la prise de décisions au nom d'autrui, la Loi sur la santé mentale et la Loi de 1996 sur le consentement aux soins de santé) ainsi que les dispositions législatives connexes pour veiller au respect des exigences légales.
• Connaissance et compréhension démontrées des problèmes auxquels doivent souvent faire face les personnes vulnérables en ce qui concerne leurs biens et leurs soins personnels.

Compétences en analyse et en médiation

• Compétences avérées en analyse pour élaborer un plan d'enquête, déterminer et évaluer l'information nécessaire et formuler des recommandations en fonction des renseignements recueillis au cours des enquêtes.
• Tact, diplomatie et compétences en médiation pour gérer les questions litigieuses et pour résoudre ou apaiser les différends.
