THE COMMITTEE ON INVITATIONS

To whom was referred a Concurrent Resolution (S.975) to recognize the last Saturday of September each year as Green Apple Day of service in, etc., respectfully

REPORT:

Has polled the Concurrent Resolution out majority favorable.

[975-1]

ACONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE THE LAST SATURDAY OF SEPTEMBER EACH YEAR AS GREEN APPLE DAY OF SERVICE IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Whereas, the Green Apple Day of Service, conceived by the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), has provided inspiration for communities to transform their school environments into healthier, more costeffective, and more sustainable places to learn; and

Whereas, in its 2012 inaugural year, more than 1,250 communities, spanning all fifty states and fortynine countries, hosted Green Apple Day of Service projects to improve our schools through environmental education and community events; and

Whereas, in 2013, Green Apple Day of Service expanded to nearly 2,100 projects in all fifty states and more than thirty countries; and

Whereas, the Center for Green Schools has collaborated with partners from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors to share community project ideas and stepbystep instructions for organizing school service projects; and

Whereas, on September 27, 2014, the USGBC will organize the third annual Green Apple Day of Service, when green school advocates from across the country and around the world, including USGBC chapters, international green building councils, elected officials, school officials, teachers, parents, and students will come together in support of green schools by taking action in their communities. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize the last Saturday of September each year as Green Apple Day of Service in South Carolina.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to the Center for Green Schools at the U.S. Green Building Council.
