2017-2018 HYPE HANDBOOK

H.Y.P.E. stands for “Half-Year Performance Education” and is a cheer program designed to meet the needs of both new and experienced athletes. H.Y.P.E. is perfect for children ages 5-18 that wish to participate in a cheer program that focuses on dance, tumbling, and stunting. Athletes in the H.Y.P.E cheer program will enjoy lighter time and financial commitments than traditional full-season travel competitive cheer programs. This is also a great opportunity for athletes just finishing up a sideline cheer program. Lesson plans revolve around teaching safe and proper technique in all skills, fostering teamwork among the cheerleaders, and encouraging a safe, fun, and educational environment for everyone.

PREMIER ATHLETICS MISSION STATEMENT:

To teach young athletes to 1) Be self-confident, 2) do “their” best and 3) have FUN!

GENERAL GYM GUIDELINES

• The focus for the Premier HYPE program is to ALWAYS create a POSITIVE atmosphere. This atmosphere also includes the attitude of the parents at practices, in the viewing area and at competitions. If a coach, athlete or parent is being negative in ANY WAY they will be removed from the program immediately.
• For the safety and fairness of all participants, ONLY coaches and athletes are allowed in the gym area. We do not permit parents, siblings, friends or guests in the gym practice area at any time.
• Athletes are NOT permitted to compete or “fill in” with any other all-star cheer or dance team while currently enrolled in the Premier HYPE program.
• We do reserve the right to close the parent viewing area if/when it becomes needed.
DRESS CODE & POLICIES
• All athletes are required to wear appropriate practice clothes during all practices or classes.
• All females (regardless of age) MUST wear a sports bra or tight fitting tank top under a t-shirt.
• NO jewelry of ANY kind or gum is permitted during practices, classes or competitions. This policy is for the safety of the athletes as they practice or perform.
• ALL cellphones, music/video players and other electronic devices need to be turned OFF during practices or classes. If at all possible, those items should be left at home or in the car. The gym is not responsible for stolen, broken or misplaced items.

  • Athletes can wear any brand of white cheer shoe for this team.
  • EVERY athlete MUST follow the dress code while attending/participating at competitions.

SPORTSMANSHIP
Premier Athletics is a professional organization and we expect the highest standard of attitudes from our athletes, families and staff. Please help us continue this standard throughout the ENTIRE season. If an issue does occur, please handle it using the appropriate steps. Gossiping or sharing information about an issue to other parents, athletes or coaches will only cause that issue to spread to unnecessary people. PLEASE bring any issues to the All-Star Director’simmediate attention and he will be more than happy to discuss and address it with you. While attending competitions, athletes may be asked to support all of our teams performing. This support is an important part of the development of our gym.

ATHLETE & FAMILY COMMITMENT
All-Star cheerleading takes a great deal of commitment from both the athlete and parent/guardian. Each athlete must be prepared both mentally and physically to attend practice every week, while maintaining their grades at school. The coaching staff at Premier Athletics feels that education must come first; however, we do expect that the athlete and parent commit to doing homework/studying around practice times.
ATTENDANCE POLICY – YES IT MAKES A DIFFERNCE!
• All practices are MANDATORY and each athlete should be ON TIME.
• If you are going to miss a practice please email your coach at least 2 weeks prior to the absence. If it’s a last minute change, PLEASE notify the gym as soon as possible. Do not ask another athlete or parent to tell your coach that you will not be at practice.
• We understand that sometimes things come up unexpectedly; however, everything should be planned around practice and competitions. If a squad member begins to abuse the attendance policy and is consistently missing practices, the parents will be called in for a meeting to determine if the athlete should continue to participate in the program.
• Please be ON TIME to pick up athletes from practice.
• In the event of sickness, a parent must call and notify the gym before the absence.
• If an all-star is injured, they should continue to attend all practices as an observer.
• Without proper documentation an absence is UNEXCUSED! This type of an absence may result in an athlete to but pulled from the team or that competition.
