ASH WEDNESDAY COLLECTION FOR

CATHOLICS IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN

EUROPE

Catholics in Central and Eastern Europe need our help to continue to revitalize the Church and to foster the spirit of love in their parishes and communities. The collection on Ash Wednesday will go towards pastoral and social project programs to promote Catholic life in 28 countries of Central and Eastern Europe. Some parishes need a proper place to celebrate Mass. Most cannot support basic pastoral work. Please give generously. Thank you for your support.

OPERATION RICE BOWL

As part of our faith community’s Lenten observance, we will participate in Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten program, Operation Rice Bowl. Since 1975, Operation Rice Bowl has inspired Catholics in the United States to pray, fast, learn and give as we increase our understanding of our global community. We will connect this understanding with the principles of Catholic Social Teaching throughout our Lenten Journey. We encourage you to participate in Operation Rice Bowl at home with your family.

40 DAYS FOR LIFE IN MANCHESTER

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY PROGRAMS

Every Sunday, during the 9 a.m. Mass, we offer children from 1-3 years old, playtime with a babysitter in the church hall. There are toys to play with and a snack to enjoy. The 4-5 year olds can join the Pre-CCD class for the duration of the Mass and spend the hour praying, making crafts, reading stories and learning about Jesus. For the children in grades 1-5, we offer the "Liturgy of the Word." They are dismissed after opening prayer and go downstairs to hear the Word of God. After the homily, the children return to Mass with their families. Although there is no fee for these programs, we do ask that parents register their children. This helps us prepare enough teachers and makes us aware of any food allergies the children might have. Registration forms can be found in the church hall.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL SUPPORT

The minimal criteria for support includes:

*Registration as members of St. Catherine Parish

*Contributor of record in the parish (envelope users)

*Active participation at weekend Masses and in the life

of the parish.

All three criteria must be met and verified with Fr. Paul's signature and the parish seal affixed to each Supported Student Form.

THURSDAYS ON PENNACOOK STREET

The sidewalk outside of Planned Parenthood was impassable Thursdayuntil prayer volunteers shoveled it. A teenage couple stopped and talked to the volunteers for a long time. The girl was adopted and had some problems in the past, so she was afraid her parents would throw her out if they found out she was pregnant. The volunteers offered her a place to stay and all the help she would need. She was crying and said she understood all the ramifications of having an abortion. The boy asked several times for prayers. They went into PP at12:30p.m. and left at4:50p.m. They accepted a brochure and once again askedfor prayers. NH Senate Bill 319 (Buffer Zone) was passed this week and will go to the House for a final vote. The law is a violation of free speech protected by the First Amendment (it is considered likely that the U.S. Supreme Court will strike down the Massachusetts Buffer Zone law in June). Calls to representatives opposing the bill would be much appreciated. Prayer volunteers from this parish and parishes from all over our Diocese pray outside the Planned Parenthood clinic in Manchester and offer assistance to women unsure about their decision to abort. These stories are their eyewitness accounts. There are 20 to 30 surgical abortions performed every Thursday. For information about helping save women and babies from abortion via the newly opened Pennacook Pregnancy Center, contact Cathy Kelley at 483-5177 or .

OUR PLACE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

The Our Place is looking for volunteers to provide childcare for infants and toddlers while their mothers participate in the NH Food Bank cooking and nutrition program. Classes will begin March 27-May 8 from 3-5 p.m. Anyone interested in volunteering for this session or occasionally, contact Christine at 647-2244.
