Fundraising and Communications Officer

About ECO-UNESCO

ECO-UNESCO is Ireland’s environmental education, training and youth organisation and a Key Strategic Partner of UNESCO for its Global Action Programme in Education for Sustainability. Through the provision of a wide range of environmental programmes and services, ECO-UNESCO delivers a wide range of youth, education and training programmes across Ireland to promote the personal development of young people through practical environmental projects. Working with over 10,000 young people annually we seek to raise awareness of environmental issues.

ECO-UNESCO seeks to employ a Fundraising Communications Officer to assist the organisations development and growth.

The Role:

This is a position of responsibility within ECO-UNESCO. As Fundraising & Communications Officer you will work to increase funding to ECO-UNESCO, build public awareness of ECO-UNESCO’s programmes and manage engagement with members, participants, the general public and the media.

Reporting to: / National Director of ECO-UNESCO
Location of post: / ECO-UNESCO’S Headquarters in Dublin 2
Time commitment: / Full/time (35 hours)
Flexibility is required with the expectation of evening and weekend work.
Fixed Term Contract – (initial contract for 1 year which may be extended subject to funding and on agreement)
Key responsibilities: / The Fundraising & Communications Officer will have the following functions:

General

o  Contribute to and implement a funding and communications plan for ECO-UNESCO
o  Promote organizations’ work to its target groups, participants and members
o  Manage and monitor ECO-UNESCO’s external communications
o  Manage and develop ECO-UNESCO’s Membership
Funding
o  Identify funding opportunities for ECO-UNESCO and lead or assist in the organisations response to these
o  Develop and implement a funding and fundraising plan for the organization to generate and increase income

Media & Social Media

o  Act as the immediate interface and build relationships between the media and ECO-UNESCO
o  Draft and issue press releases and arrange media interviews as requested by the Director
o  Prepare press briefings as required
o  Monitor ECO-UNESCO’s public profile, including its media presence and performance
o  Contribute to the ongoing development of ECO-UNESCO’s social media presence
o  Manage, develop (including writing and editing), and monitor content for website including activities such as Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), eNewsletters, social media marketing and other activities.
o  Organise ECO-UNESCO’s PR and Media events including press launches etc.
o  Oversee production of publications
Promotion:
o  Organise ECO-UNESCO’s presence at external events and promote ECO-UNESCO at relevant events held by outside bodies including annual attendance at teacher and youth leader conferences.

Information

o  Co-ordinate, edit and produce ECO-UNESCO’s Annual Report, annual prospectus, annual newsletter and other publications as required.
o  Coordinate, edit and produce ECO-UNESCO’s monthly e-bulletin and newsletter
o  Desktop publish materials including information leaflets, posters and flyers requested.
o  Generate and disseminate appropriate promotional information and materials, including leaflets and presentations
o  Maintain and consolidate ECO-UNESCO’s digital photo library
o  Deal with general queries from the general public and members
o  Maintain clear records of all contacts, activities and funds raised

Event Management

o  Oversee the organisation of ECO-UNESCO key events such as the annual Young Environmentalist Awards Showcase and Awards; National Youth ECO Forum etc.
o  Liaise with third party suppliers and ensure that commissioned work has been carried out fully and to the standard expected and within the agreed budgets.
Other Undertake any other such relevant duties that may from time to time arise

Personal Specification (E – Essential; D- Desirable)
Qualifications / 3rd Level Qualification in a related field / E
Experience
At least 2 years’ experience in fundraising, marketing, communications, event management / E
Experience of funding, fundraising and a proven track record / E
Experience of working in information provision and with the media / D
Experience in event management / D
Experience working with a young target group (i.e. second level and youth work sectors) / D
Knowledge, Skills and Disposition
Excellent organisational skills / E
Excellent communications and interpersonal skills / E
Excellent writing, analytical and computer skills / E
Ability to work to tight deadlines and under pressure / E
Ability to manage a complex workload / E
Working knowledge of Salesforce or a similar Customer Relationship Management system / E
Working knowledge of graphic design packages / D
Knowledge of the youth work sector and Irish education sector in Ireland would be an advantage / D
