DESCRIPTIONPhysical therapy provides instructional support by collaborating with general education and special education staff regarding adaptations and modifications to educational equipment, instruction, or the instructional environment that may help students with physical disabilities reach their special education goals.

Outcome 1To provide students with physical disabilities efficient access to their instructional environment and their instructional materials.

Outcome 2To increase the IEP goal achievement of students needing this service.

Outcome 3To provide staff with valuable assessment and program implementation information.

ACTIVITIESThe Registered Physical Therapist will conduct the following activities:

  • Provide assessment of physical functioning and the effect of a physical impairment on a student's education, particularly with regard to student movement patterns and mobility issues.
  • Assist in IEP planning and implementation for students with physical impairments, including attending IEP meetings, writing IEP goals related to physical therapy, and providing training in lifting, transferring, the use and care of special equipment and environmental modifications.
  • Provide physical therapy to students with physical impairments (e.g., mobility training) if that instruction is necessary for IEP goal attainment and cannot be provided by the school's special education or general education staff.
  • Select special equipment and monitor its use.
  • Facilitate collaboration with medical service providers and the procurement of necessary documentation.
  • Provide extended school year instruction and consultation as needed.

BILLING

FORMULAThis service is billed using a cost per wadm formula. Districts are billed the percentage of costs equal to the percentage of their district’s wadm in relationship to the total wadms of participating districts.
