Meeting Minutes
August 14, 2008
Members present:
P. Blahut, J. Borden, R. Fuller, L. Goodman, J. Hosek, M. Mc Laughlin, D. Nelson, R. Schoen, B. Smith, K. Sturm, B. Talley, H. Mortazavi.
· CDR. Culbreath’s reserve officers’ presentation has been postponed to September due to family emergency.
· Welcome new ADO representative, Dr. Bob Smith.
· Kim Sturm: The PD’s for the DA’s, DH’s, receptionists and dentists will be placed on the website to be accessed by everyone.
· ADO Call Report for August: none to report at this time. The ADO notes have not been sent out yet.
ADO annual meeting by Kim Sturm:
· Kim presented the NOHC work plan at the ADO annual meeting. She informed them that the NOHC is working on the PD’s, Post Operative Instructions. They will be placed on the NOHC website once approved by the specialists.
· CDHR: ADO’s are not ready to endorse it until they get more information. The Advance Dental Hygiene Practitioner (ADHP) representative will meet with NOHC members to present more information. At this time the NOHC member’s consensus is not to endorse either since the I H S leadership has not made any decision on these two issues. It will need further studies and input from various sources.
· ADO’s would like the NOHC to do the awards. ADO’s do not want to contribute the cash awards for the CS.
· From Kim: I advised the ADOs that the group and membership prioritized the work and the awards were not prioritized in the top 8 work issues.
Conference Call Discussion
· Lack of nomination (for awards)is the major issue. It was suggested that the ADO’s should publicize it and forward the submissions to the NOHC.
WORK PLAN
Market Pay: Will collect information from Rick Troyer to see where we stand. A link could be placed on the NOHC Web site to the BLS.gov which has all average salaries of dentists, hygienists and assistants for every region and state.
Presentation Information: Link to the I H S recruiting presentation will be placed on the NOHC website but we have to wait until Dr. Lozon has completed the presentation.
Completed Work and off the Work Plan are:
· Post Op Instructions: Have been sent to the specialists for review.
· Web site R&R: Has been completed. Needs occasional updates.
· Career mentoring Link: Completed
Clinical Alert: find the “Medical Device Alert” Website and place a link on our website.
Clinical Research and Survey Prioritization: Joyce’s Project will ask at the next conference call.
Contact List: Area reps to contact their ADO’s to compile a list or send information to the ADO’s and they will disseminate to the chief’s and to the membership.
Website: Things are being placed on the site gradually although as usual progress is slow. Improved compared to last year.
· ADA Liaison: take off the work plan.
Business plan proposal: Work group to meet in September in Albuquerque.
Next Years National Councils Meeting will be in San Diego in the same place. NOHC needs to decide who they want to invite as a speaker. Also need to make sure that ADM. Halliday has funding for the trip.
HD/DP: Dr. Blahut is involved with a Demo Project at Sisseton, SD. The project will have strong evaluation component and health education with parents.
MCRP: There are currently eight dental cases being reviewed for claim by I H S. Most are due to extractions of wrong teeth. Dr. Blahut will have a presentation for the NOHC at our annual meeting.
GPRA: Dr. Blahut has not seen the final report for the 2008.
