Job description

Lead Healthy Families project

●  Recruit, manage, support and motivate volunteers (Health Champions) on the Healthy Families project

●  Liaise with training providers to ensure effective delivery of accredited training for volunteers in healthy eating & running a cookery club- delivering accredited training in year 2 of project

●  Support volunteers to deliver health eating cooking groups and positive health messages to the wider community

●  Facilitate community conversations about health, the resources already available and potential community activities to increase physical and mental well-being

●  Support volunteers (a) to connect families to existing resources that promote mental and physical well-being; and (b) to research, co-design and deliver new activities that promote well-being in line with emerging needs

Support Community Engagement Manager in delivery of Reaching Communities and other projects

●  Identify and Engage beneficiaries at risk of social or economic exclusion due to low skills, unemployment, digital exclusion and/or social isolation. Encouraging and empowering them to join project and sustaining their involvement.

●  Help Coordinate and support volunteers to conduct community research, facilitate discussion, draw up reports and conclusions and co-design and deliver new activities based on the research

●  Complete associated admin tasks as directed by Community engagement manager

Across both projects

●  Conduct monthly individual reviews and provide on-going support for project volunteers

●  Assess training and employment needs of volunteers, supporting volunteers to explore their aspirations and identify and access work or other progression opportunities, referring to SHAK's learning and employment worker as appropriate

●  Work with local partners (e.g. Camden Adult Learning, Alexandra and Ainsworth Park, Camden Sports activators, Kilburn Older Voices Exchange, Alexandra & Ainsworth Tenants & Residents Association and Henna Asian Women's Group) to explore the scope for joint initiatives and progress these where appropriate

●  Work with volunteers to evidence, review and report on project outcomes.

Person specification

Essential / Desirable
Knowledge/Qualifications:
●  Practical knowledge, experience and understanding of community development practices, principles and values and of effective approaches in enhancing well-being and employability / ●  A recognised qualification in community development/health
●  Employment support qualification
●  Experience of facilitating learning and /or teaching qualification. e.g DTTLS
●  Level 2 literacy and numeracy or equivalent
Skills/Abilities
●  Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
●  Ability to relate to, and work with, people from a wide range of backgrounds in a respectful and empowering way
●  Good group work skills
●  Ability to identify, and build on, people's assets, taking a strengths-based approach
●  Ability to engage and motivate others
●  Strong organisational and time management skills
●  Proficient in microsoft office applications, and in use of social media
●  A skilled negotiator, able to operate with tact and diplomacy and manage tensions between different personalities
Experience
●  Track record of working with and for local people to develop and deliver community-based initiatives in areas of multiple deprivation / ●  Experience of delivering community-based healthy living and/or employability initiatives
●  Track record of working with a diverse range of groups and individuals, using a range of techniques to develop their confidence and skills
●  Track record of taking a person-centred approach to help individuals overcome barriers to inclusion and employment and/or access available support / ●  Experience of using volunteering as a pathway to employment
●  Track record of networking and collaborative inter-agency work
●  Track record of volunteer recruitment, training, motivation and support
Personal qualities
●  Self-starter, able to be pro-active and work on own initiative and as part of a team
●  Adaptable: open to new learning and ideas and able to respond to new needs as they emerge.
●  Commitment to identifying and overcoming barriers to health, equality and inclusion
