COURSE DESCRIPTION:
- Film and Video Production 12 provides learning experiences that explore the essential elements of video production. Students discover the essence of story, experience the struggle to shape and express ideas in the visual medium, and explore a variety of roles in working with others to produce collective short video projects.
COURSE OUTCOMES:
Module 1: Fundamentals of Film
Students will be expected to demonstrate a basic understanding of key aspects of film and television drama including roles and responsibilities of production team members.
Module 2: Production Team Skills
Students will be expected to develop basic strategies for creating and critically reviewing films
Module 3: Film Industry and Careers
Students will be expected to examine cultural/historical influences on the local and national film industries, consider career opportunities, and collaborate with industry personnel.
Module 4: Film Development and Production
Students will be expected to demonstrate their abilities, skills, and techniques in every aspect of the development of their own short films.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:
Students of FVP12 are expected to:
Demonstrate maturity in interaction with the instructor, peers, and guests.
Be able to work independently and contribute meaningfully during all stages of production.
Be punctual and attend class regularly.
Demonstrate respect for the technical equipment, resources, and school property.
Complete all assignments, tests, quizzes, and projects by the assigned date. Late assignments: If you need to hand in an assignment late you must see me with in two days of the original due date to fill out a request to hand in late work form.
UNITS OF STUDY
Film and Video Production 12 provides learning experiences that explore the essential elements of video production. Students discover the essence of story, experience the struggle to shape and express ideas in the visual medium, and explore a variety of roles in working with others to produce collective short video projects.
Students will study the following topics:
Unit 1: Film Introduction, Ratings Appreciation
- Describe the role of each key person in the development of a short film.Describe the film process from pre-production, through production, to post-production.Demonstrate a critical awareness of the social/cultural impact of the media and film/video industry on today’s society.
Unit 2: Storyboard and Script Process
- Demonstrate an understanding of the scrip to screen process from research to final production. Create written scripts and storyboards.
Unit 3: Editing Process
- Demonstrate basic technical abilities editing software/hardware
Unit 4: Equipment Introduction
- Demonstrate basic technical abilities with camera, sound equipment, and lighting.
Unit 5: Video Project Compilations- Students will create approx. 4-5 Short Videos
- Express thoughts, experiences, and feelings though writing, acting, and collaborating with the creative production team.
Unit 6: Sound and Special FX
- Explore and develop techniques for Special Visual and Sound Effects. Cromo Key/ Green screen will be introduced.
Unit 7: Film Industry Careers
- Identify educational career paths in the film and video industry.
Unit 8: Movie Critiques
- Develop basic strategies for creating and critiquing films/ shorts.

Unit 5will be worth approx. 50% of final evaluation. (on going throughout course)
