To provide an academic structure within which it is possible to develop the necessary creative and intellectual skills for progressing within a career related to and including the promotion of various elements within the Brand, Lifestyle and Promotion & Journalism industries.
(Creative)
·To develop an environment in which creative /innovative thought process is encouraged and stimulated
·To develop technical and academic skills relevant to professional working practice within the creative, promotion/brand industries.
·Subject journalism introduces students to an ever-changing media industry and allows them to develop practical journalism skills.
(Professional)
·To develop a knowledge and awareness of the fashion, brand, trend and lifestyle related industries and professional practice
·The course aims to provide a learning environment for personal development and growth both as an individual and as a contributor to teams and groups and provides students with all-round employability skills.

Year 1 (Level 4)
A1.1 Describe the attributes of basic market and customer profile characteristics
A1.2 Demonstrate an awareness of trend/colour at an introductory level
A1.3 Define and describe a basic promotional structure/model
A1.4 A basic understanding of how a journalist works, what news is and how it is obtained written, presented, edited and delivered across multimedia platforms.

Year 2 (Level 5)
A2.1 Identify and implement a wide range of research sources and methodologies
A2.2 Demonstrate an awareness of a broad range of market influences
A2.3 Demonstrate an ability to self manage
A2.4 A basic understanding of theoretical and conceptual issues which relate to journalism.
Year 3 (Level 6)
A3.1 Illustrate an in depth knowledge and awareness of Market levels and customer profile
A3.2 Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of colour and its use within promotion/brand/lifestyle
A3.3 Describe a professional approach to the management of both time and resources
A3.4 Broad introduction to legal, economic, ethical and regulatory controls on news and online production and (optional) knowledge of the operation of central and local government.

15.Personal Development Planning
The development of a student’s individual profile and aspiration is embedded in the delivery of Fashion and Brand Promotion and Journalism programme to enable student’s future career aspirations within the Fashion Industry.
In Level 4 students are guided through tutorial PDP sessions to establish a personal audit of transferable skills against potential employability in the fields of Fashion and Brand Promotion and Journalism.
In Level 5 students are encouraged through tutorial to set their own PDP targets focusing on targeted employability in Fashion and Brand Promotion and Journalism.
In Level 6 students are expected to promote their own individuality and personal career direction in a professional manner for employment within the Fashion and Brand Promotion sector.
PDP is designed to:
Enable you to work towards the point you would like to be at on graduation;
Help you acquire the skills needed for your chosen career
Evaluate your strengths
Develop a plan to deploy them in a range of situations at UCLAN and after graduation.
16.Admissions criteria
Programme Specifications include minimum entry requirements, including academic qualifications, together with appropriate experience and skills required for entry to study. These criteria may be expressed as a range rather than a specific grade. Amendments to entry requirements may have been made after these documents were published and you should consult the University’s website for the most up to date information.
Students will be informed of their personal minimum entry criteria in their offer letter.
Entry on to this and all other media courses within the programme area is through interview. Additionally we will normally expect applicants to evidence a number of the following:
‘A’ Level –260- 300 points. Subjects should normally include at least one of Fashion, Textiles, Media, Photography, Art, English / English Language.
Advanced GNVQ in an appropriate subject area - at least Merit overall.
BTEC in an appropriate subject area- at least Merit overall.
Open College Stage B in an appropriate subject area - 60% or above
In addition, candidates should normally have GCSE English at grade C or above, or equivalent.
Candidates without the above qualifications, or qualifications in other subject areas, will be considered provided that there is firm evidence of experience and commitment to at least one of the main areas of practical study (photography, fashion, media, art, graphic design etc). At interview a portfolio of previous work in a relevant area will be requested. Applications from mature candidates will be welcome.
Applications from individuals with non-standard qualifications, relevant work or life experience and who can demonstrate the ability to cope with and benefit from degree level studies are welcome.
