FARLEY NAMED OFFICER OF THE YEAR
FARMVILLE, VA - Officer Shay Farley has been named as the Farmville Police Department’s Officer of the Year for 2014. Farley was recognized, along with fourteen other officers for their various accomplishments last year, during the department’s annual awards banquet held on March 18, 2015. Farley is a midnight shift patrol officer who is also active with the bike patrol. Farley has received citizen compliments for his community policing efforts and praise from his coworkers for his enthusiasm. For his outstanding work ethic, positive attitude, and dedication to providing a safe and secure community through excellence in public service, the Farmville Police Department honors Officer D. Shay Farley.
Officers are nominated for Officer Of The Year by their peers. Those nominations are then evaluated by the command staff, with the Chief of Police making the final determination. Other officers supported Farley when they nominated him for this award: “He has a very good work ethic”…and… “is a great asset to this department”; “He has put forth tremendous effort in all phases of his job. He has been diligent on patrol, worked hard on criminal investigations, and gone the extra mile on several occasions to reach out to people and try to help them”.
During the banquet, several other special awards were distributed. Sergeant Danny Bowman received the department’s Lifesaving Award for successfully performing CPR during a medical emergency at a local business. Detective Sergeant Chris Moss received the department’s Meritorious Service Award for his coordination of the department’s many community policing initiatives over the last five years.

Retired Chief Doug Mooney also received the Meritorious Service Award, for his leadership and assistance in obtaining accreditation through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission, modernizing our police fleet, and other technology upgrades.
Other officers receiving various commendations and/or certificates of promotion were Capt. Andy Ellington, Lt. John Garrett, Sgt. Bobby Ragland, Sgt. David Ragland, Corporal Stuart Godsey, Detective Albert Bappert, Officer Christie Mouser, Detective Sammy Entrekin, Officer Jeff Davis, Officer Chris Riviere, and Officer Eric Ellington.
