“Pray continually.”
- 1 Thessalonians 5:17 (Common English Bible)
This month we will begin the season of Lent at our Ash Wednesday Service on February 18 at 6:15 pm. Often considered a journey to the cross, the season is also a time of preparation for Easter and the new life that Christ lives and offers to us. There are many ways to prepare during this season. Traditionally, those have included prayer, fasting, and giving alms (acts of charity). But how do we pray continually or without ceasing as Paul writes?
Brother Lawrence was a monk who served in the kitchen of his monastery and lived hundreds of years ago. His memory lives on, though, in a little book titled The Practice of the Presence of God. In this book, Lawrence shares how he does just that, practice the presence of God. No matter where he was or what he was doing, Lawrence practiced the presence of God by being present to God himself. One of my favorite quotes from Lawrence says, “For me the time of action does not differ from the time of prayer, and in the noise and clatter of my kitchen, while several persons are together calling for as many different things, I possess God in as great tranquility as when upon my knees at the blessed sacrament.”
Like that of Lawrence, our lives can become filled with all sorts of noise and clatter, sometimes from all directions. But in the days ahead, may you be present to God and know God’s presence. No matter what noise or clatter may be around, know that God is even closer than that.
See you Sunday,

Wondrous Love
I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene, and wonder how He could love me, a sinner condemned, unclean. How marvelous, how wonderful! And my song shall ever be: How marvelous, how wonderful is my Savior’s love for me!
This years Easter musical, “Wondrous Love” by Lloyd Larson will be presented March 29th during the morning service.

Mossy Creek UMC Superstore Spring Yard Sale
Been putting off having a yard sale because of all the hassles? Or worse, you go to all the trouble and nobody shows up!!
Forget placing expensive ads, sticking signs all over the neighborhood and having dozens of people trampling through your yard and help a very worthy cause, our Building Fund. Whether you have a little or a lot, we will take it!
So, clean out your attic, basement, garage, closets, etc and bring it to the fellowship hall anytime March 9th – 12th, 2015. The actual yard sale will be held March 13th & 14th but we would LOVE to have the merchandise prior to these dates so we can get it priced and displayed. If you want to bring it prior to March 9th, all merchandise can be put in the church basement.
Yard Sales are always fun so come join us anytime during those dates to display merchandise, price, fold clothes, help customers or pack up at the end. We look forward to seeing one and all!!

Fat Tuesday
On Tuesday, February 17th we will be having a pancake supper as our Family Night Supper for February. Fat Tuesday is a time when some get rid of the fatty foods in their homes in preparation for the 40 day period of fasting leading up to Easter. We hope you will join us for pancakes and fun as we prepare for Lent. For some extra excitement wear your mask.
Soup Queen 2015
Our January Family Night Supper just proved what everyone says, that Mossy Creek has some great cooks. And we had some fun doing it with our soup/stew/chili cook off. There were several delicious entries including: clam chowder, potato bacon, Brunswick stew, and celery just to name a few. The voting was frenzied and very close. When all the votes were tallied, Heather Landen with her Taco Soup was the winner. Below Kay Head, our 2014 winner, crowns and passes the silver ladle on to the new queen. Thank you to all the great cooks who helped make this a fun and delicious night.
