COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

COURSE OVERVIEW:

This class will include introducing, explaining, demonstrating, and providing guided as well as independent practice projects for the students to complete in a variety of applications. The extensive “hands-on” work will require students to become familiar and comfortable working with word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel), slide show presentations (Power Point), graphic design, the Internet, and other creative multimedia applications.

COURSE EXPECTATIONS:

·  It is recommended that students bring to class a spiral notebook or loose leaf notebook paper and a pen or pencil with them to their workstation in order to take written notes, complete daily assignments, and take written quizzes/tests. As with all recommended/optional items, there is no grade component connected to this item.

·  PLACE ALL BACKPACKS AND OTHER BOOKS NEATLY ALONG THE SIDE WALL!

·  All students will develop a portfolio of their work throughout the semester.

·  Students are responsible for missing work and new material covered during an absence. Any work due or collected during an absence must be promptly submitted.

CLASSROOM BEHAVIOR:

·  Courtesy and respect are expected of all students. Do not distract or disrupt other students nor the teacher.

·  Students are responsible for the care and upkeep of their computer workstation. Do not misuse or damage any computer equipment in the lab.

·  Disciplinary measures such as detention, calls to parents, and referrals to the appropriate administrators will be taken for tardiness, disruptive behavior, eating, or drinking in class.

·  All school regulations will be strictly enforced.

GRADES:

·  The following assignments will be used to determine a student’s semester grade:

Quizzes (written and projects) Tests (on computer)

Participation Portfolio [Projects, Typed Notes]

Final Exam

·  The grading scale to be used is as follows:

90-100%=A 80-89%=B 70-79%=C 60-69%=D 59 & lower=F

NOTE: WITH ALL DUE CONSIDERATION GIVEN TO THE ABOVE STATED GUIDELINES, THE FINAL DETERMINATION OF THE STUDENT’S GRADE RESTS WITH THE PROFESSIONAL JUDGMENT OF THE TEACHER.
