Sampling of Strategies

Vocabulary.

  • Use study tool (read and spell both ways)
  • Write out 3-5 times each
  • Highlight spelling and accent errors on graded work, quizzes and tests
  • Highlight accents on study tool
  • Write out 2 sentences and a question using each new vocabulary word
  • Use flashcards (online or hard copy)
  • Record vocabulary list (with English equivalents) onto ipod or mp3 player and listen as often as you can
  • Sing the vocabulary words to a popular song and practice while singing
  • Draw a representation of each word and label them. Tape then to your bathroom mirror and study while brushing your teeth etc.

Listening comprehension.

  • Use online tools from Textbook (audio section) to practice listening.
  • Go to online Spanish radio and or news stations and listen in daily to 20 minutes of a broadcast
  • Have partner read Spanish word out loud when practicing vocabulary with study tool.
  • Pay attention in class (teacher speaks in Spanish) and respond purposefully using Spanish as much as you can.
  • Have partner read questions out loud when you are doing Q & A practice
  • Go over listening parts of tests and video worksheets with teacher after school for more individualized practice and understanding.
  • Watch online Spanish TV ( if you get it)

Writing.

  • Highlight errors on graded work and come see teacher so we can analyze the areas you need to work on. There will probably be patterns.
  • Practice writing out answers to questions asked in class, on homework and online. Cut the words apart (after teacher checks it) and see if you can put the sentence back together again in order.
  • Take sentences from textbook you know are correct and highlight in different colors the parts of speech.
  • Practice writing definitions in Spanish.
  • Practice explaining “how to” processes in Spanish.
  • Write journal entries daily and have teacher look them over.
