ELK POINT CHAMBER

MINUTES OF MEETING – March 31, 2016

Meeting held at Los Amigos with President Katie Buum presiding.

Katie recognized Representative from District 16, Jim Bolin from Canton. He stopped in Elk Point to join the Chamber for lunch and to catch up on local news.

Troy Donnelly, EPJ Education Foundation Representative, presented information on the Education Foundation and efforts for fundraising for the Community Commitment fund. In order to be eligible to receive a scholarship from the Community Fund, every student must have completed at least nine hours at a post-graduate institution. Last year the per-student amount was a $450 scholarship, and this year it could possibly be $475. Troy encouraged the Chamber to continue their support.

Brian Wells advised that the Golf Outing committee would be meeting and begin planning for the 2016 event. No date has been set as of yet.

Katie and Vice President Maisie Antonson met earlier in March with the Elk Point Parks and Recreation Association Committee to discuss the dormant Community Pride Account and working together to raise funds to replace and buy new park equipment. At this time they have not received a reply from the committee.

Katie informed the group that a Summer Jam meeting would be held Sunday, April 17th, at City Hall. All members were encouraged to come to the meeting and get involved. Summer Jam has been scheduled for Saturday, July 23.

Father John Rasmussen made a motion the meeting adjourn, seconded by Lynn Kanne.

CHAMBER MINUTES-MARCH & APRIL, 2016, MEETING

ELK POINT CHAMBER

MINUTES OF MEETING – April 28, 2016

Meeting held at Los Amigos with President Katie Buum presiding.

John Gille advised that the Clay Union Foundation awarded a $500 Scholarship to Elk Point Jefferson student, Alex Hoffman. He also informed the group that he E-mailed 120 runners for the upcoming half marathon and 5K run, which will be held on Saturday, September 24th. The annual bike ride is scheduled for Saturday, August 20th.

The Elk Point Parks and Recreation Association responded to the meeting that was held in March with Katie and Maisie Antonson regarding the Community Pride account and working with the Chamber to accumulate funds for park equipment. Following is their response:

“At this time, we really have no need to use the Community Pride Fund account as we

have our own articles of incorporation and will pursue grants in the future to meet our

needs. Together with the SDSU coalition group, we have submitted action plans for the

new Elk Point Playground/Fitness Zone. We are hoping to obtain a grant from the CDC

and are awaiting a response, hopefully sometime within the next month. At that time,

members of the coalition and EPPARA will be anxious to share the plans with the

Chamber and give the Chamber members an opportunity to participate in making the

Elk Point Community’s dream a reality.”

No action taken at this time.

Maisie informed the group that one item on the community assessment list was the lack of public transportation in Elk Point. A committee consisting of Maisie, City Administrator Dennis Nelsen, Superintendent Sherry Hardman and Jacqueline Kreber from WelCov have met and have looked into maybe applying for a grant to maybe purchase a vehicle for transportation, insurance, etc. Further information will be forthcoming.

Maisie advised that First Dakota National Bank has scheduled Customer Appreciation Day for April 29th, from 11:00 TO 2:00. Hot Dogs and Chips will be served and is free to the public. Everyone is welcome.

Summer Jam update. Summer Jam has now become a two-day event. The annual golf outing will be held on Friday, July 22nd, from 11:00 to 5:00. An outdoor movie will be shown Friday evening at the lower baseball diamond. These are just two of the many things happening for our two-day event.

Katie advised that she will no longer be available to serve as President and resigned her position. Renee Irwin was asked if she would be interested in serving as the new president. She agreed and members were asked to respond by saying “Aye” to having Renee serve as president. All in favor.

John Gille made a motion the meeting adjourn, seconded by Susan Odson.
