Information and entry form for the Textile and Fibre Arts Network Exhibition
“Textile and Fibre Arts Exhibition”
Eastside Gallery, Linwood Community Arts Centre
468 Worcester St, Christchurch. (Cnr of Worcester St and Stanmore Rd)
Tues 1 August - Sat 12 August 2017, 11 am- 4.00 pm daily, excluding Sundays
Exhibition Requirements
Exhibitors must be current members of a member group of the Network at time of entry.
The Exhibition- two categories
Open
· Preference will be given to new work created after our last exhibition (October 2015,) that hasn’t been already exhibited in Christchurch.
· Work previously exhibited outside Christchurch may be exhibited.
· Work items may be any size, or free standing 3D. The maximum weight for any hanging item is 8 kg. No 3D item should be larger than 0.5 m in any direction.
· Any textile item is eligible for entry- bags, boxes, quilts, embroideries, items of clothing, etc.
· A balanced range of quality work is sought from across the range of textile arts.
The Challenge for 2017 will be ‘Transitions - from old to new’. This theme is in keeping with the philosophy of Eastside Gallery that has an annual recycling exhibition. Rescue that old jersey, blanket, table cloth, shirt, scraps, wool oddments, found items etc, and create something new and exciting. Any size, any shape, but if free standing must be able to stand unsupported.
All challenge entries will be displayed if possible.
In addition to the above two categories, smaller groups and Guilds who don’t hold their own exhibitions may apply to the Network for a space to show their work. Contact the secretary Ros McCarthy at for further information.
Entries
You may enter either or both categories for the exhibition
· Please indicate on your entry form if the item is made by you individually, or by two or more people. If the latter, all involved in the making should be acknowledged, e.g. a quilt that has been made by you but commercially quilted.
· Display of any entry is at the discretion of the committee. The work may not be displayed for a variety of reasons, e.g. too many entries for the venue, or too many entries from a particular discipline.
· The work will not be judged, but there will be a Viewer’s Choice award for both the Open and challenge categories, and for small group exhibitions.
Entry forms
· Copies will be available from your Guild or group rep, or in our newsletters. Photocopy as required.
· Each item requires its own fully completed entry form, including entries for the Challenge.
· Entry forms to be posted to Julie Devlin, 47 Berkshire Drive, CHC 8042, marked “Exhibition”, to arrive no later than Friday 20 July, 2017.
Hanging/displaying work
· There will be tables to display items such as embroideries, knitting etc.
· All quilts/wall hangings must have some means of hanging, e.g. a 10 cm deep fabric sleeve securely attached to the back. (Velcro is not required.) This sleeve must lie flat.
· Some woven items may be draped over a hanging bar.
· We are not permitted to pin items on walls.
· Contact your Guild or group rep if you have any questions in regard to your entry.
· Note on your entry form if your entry is not to be touched.
Labelling
· All items to be clearly labelled with name, title and sale price (or NFS) stitched/labelled securely to the bottom corner of the back of the work, or on the base.
Each entry is to be submitted to the Guild or group rep/nominated person in a separate named fabric bag, e.g. a pillow case. Any other item of packaging for unusually shaped items requiring protection, must also be clearly labelled.
Acknowledgement of design source
· Entries must not breach copyright. If using a kit or pattern, this must be acknowledged. Original work is preferred.
· If it is a work started in a tutor’s workshop, please acknowledge the tutor.
· Any photo used as a design source not taken by yourself, must state source or photographer’s name
Delivery
· All exhibition items to be collected by the Guild/Group rep in the week prior to 31st July. This person is responsible for getting the entries to the venue by 9 am on Monday 31st July for set up.
Collection
· All exhibition items will be available for collection from the venue between 4 and 4.30 pm on Saturday 12 August. No item will be released before this time.
· Each Guild or group rep is responsible for the prompt return of exhibition items to the exhibitor. You or your designated collector will have to sign for collecting the item.
Insurance
This is the responsibility of the owner of the item. The Network accepts no liability for works lost or damaged.
Photography of Work
This is permitted for personal use only. Permission would be sought for photography for textile magazines or publicity purposes.
Sale of Work
Indicate clearly on your entry form if the work is for sale and the asking price.
The Linwood Community Arts Centre charge a 20% commission for any works sold from the Eastside Gallery. The LCAC will manage all art sales by processing payments and maintaining contacts during the time they exhibit at LCAC. Artists receive payment for sales at the conclusion of the exhibition or when payment for sales has been received.
