Transferring Transcultural Visual Metaphor through American Indian Boarding School Curriculum 1880-1910,Research in conjunction with Woodland Indian Education Program director Jessica Diemer-Eaton. Responsibilities and notable achievements:

Awarded Humanities Montana Grant March 2014 to facilitate cultural dialogue between the Salish Tribe and the Ravalli County Commissioners and community regarding the Medicine Tree and cultural beliefs surrounding sacred “place”.

  • Developed and instructed new permanent course for the 2014-15 University of Montana catalog:Native North American History through Art and Material Culturesupported by the University of Montana Native American Studies department at the Bitterroot College,Hamilton location. Instructed and developed Introduction to the University Experience and Learning and Study Strategies in the AASC program for two year students.
  • Mentored two year degree seeking students in two consecutive research conference presentations in Native American art historical research.
  • Created the Writing, Research and Reading Lab for tutoringand advising. Instructed and developed learning and study skills courses, and introduction to the university experiences class, taughtcontinuing education art classes and undergraduate Native American studies course.
  • Instructed in the Veterans Upward Bound programs through TRIO of Montana State University Havre, MT. Assisted in writing grants to seek external funding.Attended all meetings, worked within designated budget. Initiated outreach and assessed needs of the community.

  • Roles and Responsibilities: Full time faculty member responsible for teaching 12 SH/equivalent per semester in teacher education core courses and methods. Assignments include undergraduate or graduate level teaching in Educational Psychology, Managing the Learning Environment, Curriculum and Assessment, Art Methods and Diversity and Multicultural education courses.
  • Responsibilities also include advising 38 students and mentoring students. Attended all meetings and served on two committees. Presented workshops and informative lectures for the public and partnered with youth group “Kids for Peace” in Earth Day events with university students.

Notable Accomplishment: Directed and coordinated the 7th Annual American Indian Artists Symposium.

Duties included: Provided leadership in appropriate visibility-raising activities and in creating an environment in which the arts and artist residencies can flourish in Basin, Montana. Built relationships and educated the public, elected officials and community leaders statewide regarding the Montana Artists Refuge and the importance of the arts to quality of life and economic health and educational excellence of the community. Coordinated all organizational activities related to these efforts including: communicated with state and national policy makers, developed community connection strategies, press releases and mailings, website oversight, newsletter coordination, and provide for ongoing training and materials for the Board, and contacts with other arts organization.

  • Provided strategic direction and leadership in fundraising and other support activities necessary to ensure the long-term fiscal stability of MAR. Worked with the Board to secure corporate, foundation and private sponsorship for events, programs and operations. Researched potential grants, wrote or assisted in writing grants, maintained ongoing grant documentation as needed. Increased private sector participation and partnerships.
  • Recruited, hired, provided direction, supervised and dismissed employees. Developed statewide linkages and encourage strategic partnerships. Served as spokesperson on behalf of the organization in local and national arenas.
  • Managed and was fully accountable for the successful day-to-day operations of the organization. Developed and oversaw annual work plan with staff.

On-Site Manager, The Birch Creek Center, Outdoor Education Facility, The University if Montana- Western (Summer 2003)

  • Oversaw the operations of the food service and the lodging at the Birch Creek Center located in the Pintlar Mountains in Southwestern Montana
