Art of the Campfire
In order to participate in this program, one:
· Must have the ability to follow verbal and/or visual instructions independently or with assistance from a companion or self provided adaptive device.
· Must have the ability to sit on the ground on a grassy surface or self-provided chair independently or with the assistance of a companion or self provided adaptive device.
· Must have the ability to withstand typical outdoor conditions, to include possible biting insects, for up to 1 ½ hours.
· Must have the ability to traverse uneven terrain up to ¼ mile one way (from parking area to program location), in low light conditions, independently or with the assistance of a companion or self-provided mobility device.
· Must have the ability to grasp, hold, and maneuver small, slick and/or sticky food items and small diameter sticks or dowels, weighing less than ½ pound, independently or with the assistance of a companion, to participate in campfire cooking and sampling activity.*
* Ingredients of campire cooking recipes will be posted and available at the program. Participants who have specific allergies may bring a suitable item that can be roasted on a stick over the fire. Foods with nuts or meat products will not be used in cooking or sampling activities. Processed foods, sugar and wheat products may be used, including foods that may be produced in factories that process nuts.
NOTE: Participants are recommended to bring a chair or blanket, a drum or other musical instrument, insect repellant, water and a head-lamp or flashlight (with red light lens option preferred). Metal folding chairs will also be provided.
