Per the by-laws of the Young Supporters Board, members shall be between twenty-two (22) and forty (40) years of age.

Board Endorsement

A current member of the Young Supporters Board, Advisory Board or UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center staff must write an endorsement letter on your behalf. Please email the endorsement letter to .

Supplemental Information

Please provide the following supplemental information:

(1)  A copy of your current resume;

(2)  A high resolution digital headshot/photograph of yourself to be used in the YSB’s membership directory;

(3)  A list of any community service involvement, leadership or special recognitions (from the last 5 years) that are not on your resume;

(4)  A list of any special skill sets that may be helpful to the Board; and
( ie: Background in Non-profits/foundations, Photography, Event planning,

Writing, Videographer, Accounting/Tax knowledge, IT/Website design, etc.)

(5)  A short (250 words or less) personal statement explaining why you have a special interest in our organization’s vision: “To eliminate cancer as a major public health problem.”

New Member Application Process:

(1)  Board members will be notified two months before the application deadline. Blank applications will be emailed to all Board members

(2)  Every applicant must complete an application in its entirety before the application deadline in order to be considered for membership on the Board.

(3)  All applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2015.

(4)  An Application Review Panel (the “Panel”) consisting of the officers of the Board and 2-3 members-at-large will review the applications.

  1. Each member of the Panel will review each application and assign a number grade based on a scale of 1 through 10 (10 representing an outstanding application; 1 representing a poor application).
  2. The scores are aggregated and applicants will be ranked based on total overall scores by the chair of the Panel. The results will then be presented to the Panel.
  3. The Panel will meet to discuss the individual applications and work to fulfill a slate of new members based on the Board’s needs.
  4. The Panel will present the slate to the Board for approval.

(5)  New Members will be notified by the members of the Panel of their acceptance.
