Established in 1978, UC San Diego’s Moores Cancer Center is one of just 41 National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the United States, and the only one in the San Diego region. Moores cancer services were ranked among the top 25 in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in its 2014-15 “Best Hospitals” survey. In 2014, the center was named one of “100 Hospitals and Health Systems with Great Oncology Programs” by Becker’s Hospital Review. The Moores Cancer Center’s unique “bench-to-bedside” approach to cancer research and patient care supports the broadest range of cancer activities in the San Diego region. From research in molecular genetics to the most advanced treatments, Moores Cancer Center is at the forefront of the fight against cancer, developing promising new therapies and making them available to cancer patients throughout the region.
The Pauline and Stanley Foster Hospital for Cancer Care will open in 2016 and provide 108 new cancer beds, thus doubling the capacity to treat patients with every form of malignancy and providing the latest in technology for clinical care for cancer patients. Moores Cancer Center patient population is growing at 18 percent a year.
The Director of Cancer Center Operations provides administrative oversight and operational control for the Cancer Center including, but not limited to: Infusion Center, Radiation Oncology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Procedure Suite, Urgent Care/Same Day Service, Comprehensive Breast Center and North County Satellites. Responsible for all clinical operations including patient flow, efficiency, cost containment, staffing analysis, and budget variance. Also responsible for improving financial performance, developing new service offerings, and continually evaluating operational performance. Will lead a team consisting of clinic managers, supervisors and staff in managing the daily operations and the development of services within the Cancer Center. Collaborates with physician medical directors, and physician groups to ensure the development of clinical services and the integration of physicians into all aspects of leadership of the service line.
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in related field; Masters preferred. Oncology experience is required and experience in an NCI designated cancer center is preferred. Progressively responsible experience in operations for a minimum of 7 years, 5 of which are in a management role. Comprehensive and thorough understanding of health care delivery systems, day-to-day operations and financial issues. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to coach and develop a highly effective team. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Knowledge of hospital information systems.
