MOREHOUSE COLLEGE ALUMNI HOLDS LIVING LEGENDS EVENT IN D.C. HIGHLIGHTING THE BEST OF MOREHOUSE AND RAISING SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS

WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 22, 2016 -- On Friday evening September 23, The Morehouse College National Alumni Association will host a series of events to celebrate the grand opening of the Smithsonian African American Museum of History and Culture, culminating in The Living Legends Grand Scholarship Reception.

The Living Legends Reception will be an elegant evening at a new location, The Skybridge at the Washngton Convention Center, 801 Mt. Vernon Place in Washington D.C., featuringlive entertainment, music and dancing and the Morehouse College Glee Club. There will be interactive updates highlighting ” The Best of Morehouse College” and the variety ways to engage in support of current students. The VIP reception will feature “The Making of The Maynard Jackson” Documentary. The Honorary Host Committee includes, among others, Dr. David Satcher, Mr. Michael Lomax, Rev. Otis Moss Jr., Dr. Abraham Davis, Martin Luther King III, Mr. Henry and Billye Aaron, Dr. Louis Sullivan, Mr. C.D. Moody, Dr. Calvin Mackie, Dr. Eddie Glaude, and Mr. Charles Reynolds.

All proceeds from the Living Legends Grand Scholarship Reception will be directed to the Morehouse Board of Trustee Opportunity Fund, which is designed for use as a last resort to keep upperclassmen financially eligible.

That is very important during this time when enrollment and applications are rising at historically black colleges and universities such as Morehouse College.

“More and more African American students are seeing that historically black colleges and universities are a welcoming space for them to be nurtured and educated,” said Morehouse President John Silvanus Wilson Jr. “At Morehouse, we pride ourselves on developing African American leaders, particularly during these trying times for African American men. The Living Legends Reception is one of the ways the Morehouse community is working to ensure that men have a place learn and develop and become the leaders this nation needs right now.”
