7th-8th Grade UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest

Permission Form: Due Tuesday, September 24th

Event: Saturday, November 9th

Dear Parents and Students,

UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest is an extra curricular event where academically eligible students in 7th and 8th grade are able to participate. Students will learn and prepare a solo or ensemble song and perform the song for a judge who will then constructively critique and rate the student's performance. This event is an encouraging and beneficial experience for students who are interested and prepare appropriately. Students participating in this contest achieve a high level of self-confidence, and medals will be awarded to those who earn a superior rating. The contest is being hosted by Krimmel Intermediate School on Saturday, November 9th.

In preparation for this event:

All students are required to select a solo, work on it during class time, and sing it for a major grade. Students will not be required to sing alone in front of the class, but will be greatly encouraged to do so, as the contest date approaches. There will be some preparation during class time at the end of October, but students will also need to practice on their own time. Once the solo song selections are made, students will receive a practice CD and sheet music so they are able to practice at home.

Requirements for this event:

  1. Academically Eligible: Students must have a 70 or higher in each subject according to the most recent report card or progress report.
  2. $10 Entry Fee for each solo and ensemble number. Due by Tuesday, September 24th.
  3. Accompanist Fee: For solos, an accompanist is required. The school district fee is $25.00. With the fee the soloist receives two rehearsals and the performance for the judge. This fee is payable to the accompanist personally; our accompanist is to be announced. Due by Monday, October 21st. If you would like to find your own accompanist, just let Ms. Tolmsoff know.
  4. Transportation: Each student/parent will be responsible for their own transportation this event. Krimmel Intermediate is in Klein ISD on FM 2920. (Carpooling is certainly fine.)
  5. All fees are non-refundable.

Once the entry fee is received, the student will receive a copy of his/her chosen solo to take home as well as a practice CD. Lessons will be offered before and after school for 15 minute time slots after the students have worked on the solos on their own with CD.

Advance Girls and Boys Choir Membersare required to participate in one extra curricular choir event. This event is one of the two extra curricular choir events offered this year. Intermediate Girls Choir members are not required to participate but highly encouraged.

More Event Information:

This event will occur on Saturday, November 9th. Students will be assigned a time in which they will perform for the judge. Those times will be assigned at a later date as well as the arrival time. Since students will be representing Kleb Choir, professional dress attire is required. Here are some basic attire choices and guidelines:
